I think I`ve seen this discussed somewhere before but cant find that. Anyone mix up an IPA solution and ONR or an APC to simulate the dual duties of Eraser?

IMO any APC would require a fair amount of rinsing and IME IPA is mediocre at best when it comes to removing polishing oils.` IPA sure isn`t enough after M205.

yeah I`ve read you talk about how difficult that stuff is. I have 105 and Menzerna stuff though and I probably won`t get 205 because of the oils.

What would you recommend to remove polishing oils?

I use PrepWash from Top of the Line.` They might call it something different now, like "wax and silicone remover" or something like that.` Or just get the Eraser, or wash with ValuGard`s "A".

I use 22-25% IPA solution in a 32oz bottle mixed with 1 ounce Meguiar`s Rinse Free Express Wash.` Have been doing this since its release with zero issues.` I`m sure ONR would give great results as well.` The thing about Meg`s RFEW is that using it 1oz/gal it is a strong cleaner.` Mike Stoops said they are using it 1:6 (1 part RFEW : 6 parts water) to remove polish oils from their polishes.` You can go stronger on the IPA side if you want but I chose more RFEW.`

I"m always surprised when somebody can strip the TSO in M205 with something like IPA...not questioning it, just surprised (or maybe jealous!).

For a while Barry Theal was using IPA mixed with glass cleaner.` 50% HD 50:1 glass cleaner(already mixed), 25% water, 25% IPA 70% I believe.` Don`t know if he`s still using it.

I used to use a mixture of IPA, ONR, and glass cleaner. Now I just use Eraser and it works great.

I`d be a little careful about which Glass Cleaner is used for DIY mixes...not that I know which is/isn`t appropriate.

What is the rationale for needing to remove oil? Does it hurt the paint?

Nah,`the doesn`t hurt the paint.` But`they can a) conceal light marring, causing it to "come back" as the oils dissipate, b) look bad under certain lighting, something I call "pseudo-holograms" because it can resemble rotary-instilled holograms, and c) mess with the bonding of certain LSPs.` I`m not as fanatical about stripping the oils as some people are, but I`ve had all three of these issues occur, sometimes with amazing severity...bad enough to basically spoil the detail.
