So I scored a set of four Fry oil jugs from a restaurant.

I have high hopes of using these to store Deionized water.

Sure, I have my five gallon buckets, but how many buckets does

someone really need to buy. Unless you she`ll out big bucks for

a large set of buckets and gamma seal lids, things get messy quick.

Can these sturdy containers be my backups?

We shall see.

I hope that I will be able to take all of the oil out of the jugs.

If I have any oil in there, it will be an unsuitable container.

The part that I am worried about is the lid. The bottom of the

lid has a paper bottom to it, which is impregnated with oil.

If I can`t fix the lid, these will be a no-go.

I do think that I will be able to either scrape the paper off,

or place a foil square 3 times the size of the hole under the lid.

as long as the foil extends past the lid, any possible oil would

go outside the Jug. I also think that the Jug will be cleaned by

a combination of hot water, dawn and APC.

Is there any reason this wouldn`t work?

Does the oil seep into the plastic, then will be in water,

no matter how much I clean the Jug?

Thanks for your time with this idea/question.

Took one earlier, I always forget it has to be lower quality pictures.

I hope this helps.

I can cover the outside in poster board with my company name.

They are stackable and seal great.

I just know that oil isn`t something to mess with,

unless you do it right.

I think as long as you clean them really well (your plan of cleaning them seems ok) you should be fine. I would inspect them really well with regular tap water prior to finalization. Remember, water & oil don`t mix. The oil will rise to the top. ``

Even better news...... I found out that these are 4 and 1/2 gallon sized.

That is nearly perfect to fill a 5 gallon bucket with.

You could do what your planning to clean them then go to Walmart and get a couple of gallons of white vinegar and pour it in a jug and slosh it good then pour it in a pan and look at it .. if it looks good then pour it in container 2 etc etc .. Vinegar is 3% acetic acid and will help clean out the oil. As for the cap .. What I have done is taken a Ziplock bag and slit it open so its flat and place it over the spout then screw on the cap .. Even works well on gas cans .. should make a good barrier between the oiled paper and the clean water.

David. Yes each is four gallons. Supposedly.....

Jess, thanks for the info. Plastic would be much better than

foil idea that I had. I am also very cautious about getting all of

the foil from the seal off. I could see how a small piece could marr.
