2009 Nissan GTR, current owner recently purchased this car and based on the condition of the paint was able to negotiate a nice discount off the asking price. He is considering wrapping the car at some point, but the paint looked so bad, he wanted to see if there was anything that could be done so he wouldn`t be embarrassed by the condition until he decides what to do with the car.

There was definitely some repainting issues, excessive orange peel around the license plate frame in the back, dirt nibs in a few areas, buffer trails and the paint was incredibly soft. So soft wiping off compounds or polishes was tough to do without marring the paint.

The sides were even worse than the hood, this is after compounding the fender, the driver`s door is untouched other than washing.

Both fender and door compounding. You can see some hazing from Meguiars M100 and a Meguiars MF cutting disc.

This was meant to be a "make it look as good as possible without going nuts" detail, so I ended up doing two steps on the paint. The difference was pretty huge, from a car that barely looked good in the shade to a 2 foot car in the sun. There are some deeper defects that even wet sanding might not fully remove, like some nasty pigtails in the hood, and repaint issues like dirt nibs would require refinishing. But the owner is now no longer embarrassed to see his car in the sun.

Odd thing happened during the detail, while I was compounding the back end, I could hear a horrible grinding noise. Thinking maybe it was something resonating due to the pressure of the buffer, I turned it off but could still hear the noise. Look up and a recycling truck was sliding 90 degrees to the highway, with the back end tearing up the guard rail. Driver managed to bring the truck out of the skid and get it stopped in the shoulder. A couple people from his company showed up well before the police finally got there.

Nothing like a little entertainment to go with your detailing.

Really nice save on the detailing. I sure do hope the owner got a nice discount.

Getting some riding in?

Owner said he was able to get close to $7000 off what they were asking for it.

Just about 1300 miles on my bike this year, way behind where I usually am. Unusually cool spring this year, cold fronts pretty much wiping out the middle of the week every week until early May. Going to have to ramp the mileage up to 500-600 a month for the rest of the year to hit my usual 5000 miles.

Nice work as usual Scott. Amazing that the dealer knocked off 7k on the price and it took probably less than 10% of that to bring it back to dealer "NEW"! I`d wrap it in something quick! Like you said, GTRs are silly soft!

Thanks y`all!

Tim-absolutely right, wrap it. Paint was just stupid soft, its going to be really tough to maintain. And wrapping will be cheaper than a repaint.

Looks great, did you polish the whole car with just the Rupes?

Great job as always Scott, how do you feel about the M100? I`m thinking of ordering some as I can get a gallon from Detailers Club for the price of just 32 oz. of M101...

Whole car with the Rupes. Not only is the cutting action better but so is the finish. Pretty amazing machine.

Great stuff, aggressive cut yet really nice finish, haven`t touched 105 since I got M100.

Great save Scott! I bet that woke you up!
