View Full Version : DA foam pads: My GG6 is eating them

At least the ones I`ve been using, which are HF ones. The problem lies in where the velcro backing ends on the pad. Since the velcro doesn`t mate to the entire surface of the backing plate, the exposed foam to the backing plate is getting chewed up, and thrown over the vehicle.

Is this a technique issue, or just a cheap pad issue?

It`s normal. I get the same when I use the exact fit backing plate.

Are you using the backing plate that comes with the GG6? I`d suggest changing backing plates.

I like this one for all of my MF pads since the velcro goes to the edge:

Meguiar`s 6" DA Backing Plate (http://www.autodetailingsolutions.net/s6bp.html)

Or, If I`m using Meg`s old-style 6.5" pads, I like this one because the backing plate goes out to the edge, but the velcro doesn`t extend past the backing on the foam pad:

6.25" DA Backing Plate (http://www.autodetailingsolutions.net/da-backing-plate.html)

Get a 5`` backing plate to use w/ the HF pads and you`ll no longer chew them up.

There have been quite a few reports about the HF pads falling apart for different reasons. Why not just make the jump to a 5" backing plate and some quality pads. Here`s a good source for Buff & Shine pads with good pricing and free shipping if the order is over $25 and under 5 lbs Buff and Shine - Autoality Incorporated (http://www.autoality.com/store/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=298) In the 5 pack the pads are only $6 each and the BP is only $15.
