I just got an email with pre-order information about a newly revised/updated Griot`s 6" DA:

Griot`s Garage 6" Random Orbital - Griot`s Garage (http://www.griotsgarage.com/product/griots+garage+random+orbital.do?code=EMZBWR)

Looks like there have been several design changes with the same 850W motor. Just thought I`d share the info:

I constantly evaluate our products so we can offer the best tools to help you have fun in your garage. Our 1st generation random orbital brought safe and effective dual action machine polishing to a wide audience. Our 2nd generation orbital set the industry standard for performance with its powerful, 7-amp, 850-watt motor. Striving for perfection, we set out to improve upon this benchmark machine, taking into account thoughtful feedback from our great customers. After rigorous testing, I am proud to introduce the 3rd generation Griot`s Garage random orbital. Our new orbital offers the same great power as the previous version, but we redesigned the exterior to achieve a new level of comfort and ease of use. We kept the adjustable handle but added a rubberized grip to it. We added molded hand and finger grips to the housing, along with a domed, rubberized palm grip. We moved the speed control dial and power switch to more convenient locations. Polishing and waxing your paint with a random orbital has never been more easy, safe, and fun. With 6 speed settings, a 5/16" diameter offset, and low-end torque, this machine is ideal for polishing and waxing at any speed. Swirl marks? No problem. Water spots? Piece of cake. Oxidation? Bring it on! I designed the Griot`s Garage random orbital to provide you with a safe and easy way to achieve flawless results with minimal work. Not sure whether this is the right tool for you? Learn more about machine polishing in the videos below or give us a call. Powerful enough for a professional. Safe enough for a first-timer. Backed by a lifetime guarantee against defects. Choose from a 10` (18 AWG) or Extra-Long 25` (16 AWG) power cord option that makes working around the entire vehicle a breeze! Includes a 6" hook-and-loop backing plate. Foam Pads sold separately. For additional details and information, watch the videos and see the Product Information tab below.

I think this was posted somewhere else here already, but it does look like a good unit, same motor and spec it seems but different ergonomics.

I must`ve missed the post if it was... but since the videos and such were posted a week ago it`s entirely possible. Sorry if this is a re-post!

This looks like they basically took their 3" DA and scaled it to be twice as large; same casing design. What I don`t see is if they`re still going to offer a lifetime warranty or not.

I THINK they are, I read somewhere, but if this new unit solves the spindle heating up issue on speed 6, I`ll buy a couple, and I still need to get the 3" one too.

So it`s the exact same on the inside, just with different styling? I JUST got my GG 6in RO a few weeks ago, so I`m kind of pissed.

Why are you pissed? Would you rather it have the same styling but different internals?

From the GG description above: "Backed by a lifetime guarantee against defects."

No, ment to say I was GOING to be pissed if it was different on the inside.

Just aggravating that a few weeks after I buy mine, they announce this one, that has some nicer ergonomics to it.

Looks promising. Still on the fences about getting a GG6 or a 3D polisher for a secondary machine.

After all the problems with the 3D machine, you`re still on the fence? Seriously?

other than the new ergonomics/styling on the outside, it`s still the same internally inside so unless you like the formentioned, why not wait and find a new gg6v2 on clearance somewhere...

Griot`s must have done something about improving the reliability given they have the lifetime guarantee. They just would not admit it in their marketing materials. But then, we will not know until users give feedback.

Interesting that Griot`s brought "Professional" back into the mix. From the product description: "Powerful enough for a professional. Safe enough for a first-timer." For awhile, if I remember correctly, they were giving pros a hard time with the warranty as they said the GG6 wasn`t built for the hard continuous use by a pro detailer.
