I got an opportunity to try some new to me detailing items. My goal was to cut my workload by permanently coating the minivan. At 62, climbing all over the van with a polisher is getting to be too much.

I divided my workload over three weekends, partially due to time restraints, but mostly due to foul weather.

The first weekend was a wash with ONR and claying using my new Nanoskin Autoscrub 6 inch pad. I have an older Porter Cable which I ran at speed 1.5 and lubed using ONR mixed to a little heavier than recommended dilution. I really liked the Autoscrub for covering a lot of real estate quickly.

Next weekend was and ONR wash and compound using my old Cyclo polisher and my new Optimum 4.25 inch microfiber cutting pads. I used Meguiar`s Ultimate Compound and the combination worked great on the hard Nissan paint. It was nice to break out the Cyclo again and the results were decent.

The final weekend was an ONR wash again, then a wipedown with alcohol at about 15%, then covered the paint with Opti-Coat. I also covered the luggage rack railing with Opti-Coat. It was difficult to see what I was doing, but it worked out well. I also coated the wheels.

This weekend after allowing the Opti-Coat 2 weeks to cure I washed with ONR and used Poorboy`s Trim Restorer on the plastic and Poorboy`s Bold N Bright on the tires. I really enjoyed how easily the sap washed off the roof of the van.

Here are the results:

Way to stick with the project! It`s awesome and inspiring to hear even at 62 your still out there making that van look great! I can only pray to still have the energy to do my passion in years to come.

Thanks Scott. This minivan has never seen a garage :).

Thanks Perfections. 62 is not that old. Inspiring is my Mom painting the living room last year before Christmas at 81! Course she raised 9 children and is tougher than nails.

You bet. I saw OC as a way to back off the work load and keep it looking nice.
