From what I know there is white and yellow carnauba wax. Does either one work particularly well with dark or light colored cares? Cars with a metallic flake? Also I`ve drooled over youtube vids of high end car detailers showing their process on six figure cars. When applying wax, they do it by hand. Is there any science or technique to why this is done?

While some waxes require body heat to soften/flow/apply properly, it usually doesn`t matter if you apply wax by hand or with a polisher. Random orbital polishers are really just "fast hands that don`t get fatigued or careless".

Some of us do find that doing it by hand makes it easier to get a properly-thin application, and to have better control about where the wax goes/doesn`t (e.g., keeping it off trim). I myself do it both ways, depending on all sorts of things...including simply what I feel like doing that day.
