What finishes better - M105 or D300 or...

There have been a lot of threads comparing the cut of M105 and D300 with numerous different applicator options, but which of these product (or similar product) finishes down best on soft finicky paint? I detail 3 Jet Black BMW`s and usually use M105 with an LC orange flat pad to cut the pretty heavy swirling, but it leaves some significant micro marring which often requires a 3rd step. Would D300 better? Could I get by with one other step?

D300 doesn`t leave as much micro marring as the 105 does but pad selection plays a part in that too. The thing is D300 doesn`t cut as much as M105 either in my experience, FWIW.



Have you tried any other combinations than the orange/M105?



After you use the orange/M105 what is your second step?



I have read a bunch about how black BMW paint can marr if you look at it wrong. I would experiment with different pad/compounds. There isn`t one set plan or combo that works for everything. Keep us posting.

With BMW Jet Black, my experience has been that it`s very rare to NOT need 3 correction steps if there are heavy defects to remove. It is definitely a pain to finish down properly.

The final finish you will get from M105/D300 is pad and technique dependant mostly and it takes a certain amount of dedication and understanding to get the best finish possible. I`ve seen both leave a perfect final finish on certain paint, but your vehicle may require additional measures.

Have you tried microfiber pads with the 105? I often use Optimum MF cutting pads with 105 and get a darn near lsp ready finish.

Both can finish near lsp ready on certain paint systems. Depending on what your standards are or the customers it might be lsp ready :)
