View Full Version : SpeedFreak Detailed: `07 Aston Martin DB9 correction

I`ve been pretty busy lately, which translates into my being MIA on the forums. LOTS of write ups to do so I`ll just start with this one. I was contacted by the new owner of this Berwick Bronze `07 DB9 about restoring the finish. The paint was in pretty awful shape, and he was able to convince the dealer to knock $10k off the price because of it. The driver`s side rear quarter had also been painted, and there were clear runs down the side. We set aside roughly 35 hours for the correction from start to finish, and she came out great!



The finish was a bit of a PITA to correct because of the soft nature of the paint. The whole car was absolutely covered in deep RIDS, with swirl marks over top. A relatively light combo removed the swirls, but didn`t budge the RIDS. For that reason I chose a fairly aggressive correction process to level the paint, which dulled the finish significantly as you will see in some of the shots. However, when the finishing steps were conducted, it was as if I was peeling back a layer of skin to reveal the flawless luster underneath. This Aston had some of the flattest paint I have seen, there was virtually ZERO orange peel.



After the correction was completed, the owner wisely opted to have the finish locked in with Opti Coating.

that looks amazing. Having never seen that color in person, I bet it pops when sitting in the sun?!

It`s crazy how some people treat their high dollar cars paint? But it keeps us in busy, right?

Did you repair the runs? Was the car purchased at the Aston dealer in Tysons?

I have a feeling, that I used to maintain that car for a while when it was new. I mean it maybe a different one, but that color is pretty rare. That paint was very good to work on.

Thomas- apparently the car used to belong to Dr. Butros (the LASIK we dr guy you hear the commercials for on the radio) is this the car you`re speaking of?

That looks absolutely stunning, it seems the depth of the paint was muted and looks nearly black in the outside pictures but I can imagine it looks amazing in the sun, what would have caused the clear coat runs?

Nice job on a nice car. Body shop stuff and repaints are always challenging. What other kind of work do you do out of your shop? Looks like some cool projects going on in there.

Thomas, small world! Glad to see that in the end it`s gotten the proper care it deserves. The front bumper cover has also had paint work done. When is the last time you touched the car?
