In May I moved from my original shop which was one very small bay in a building (on the busiest road in town) and leased a bit of a bigger shop closer to my home. The landlord is handling all of the construction and he`s taking his time with it, but it`s getting closer.

In total my unit it a modest 800 square feet including the office area. The detail bay is 500 sq ft and for now will have one bay door which will be more of a store front roll up...aluminum frame with glass from top to bottom. A second door can be added later if necessary. The rest of bay and office has large windows running the length of the unit so there is lots of natural light. There will be ten lights on the ceiling which I may upgrade later if they dont produce enough light. Unfortunately I can not wash in the bay unless its with ONR. I have a wash tent outside but unless its raining really hard I dont use it much.

The front of the building will be getting a facelift as well which will make the building look a lot more inviting. The office will eventually have some more comfortable seating, a flat screen, coffee bar area, and some shelving for detailing products that I will sell.

In addition to detailing I have a car dealer license which allows me to sell cars so I have about 12 cars on my yard that I sell. This helps cover most of the cost of the shop and is actually a lot of fun.

I`ll post more pics as the work is finished up.

Wow, great idea! We think alike! I am currently building my business to do this very thing. I`m at least a year away from formalizing the plans (I`m currently focused on finishing school). Looking forward to the finished place!

That looks like it could be an awesome business. Small, yet clean and tidy.

That looks like it`s going to be pretty nice! Very limited parking, but it`ll get the job done for sure.

Parking is definitely a problem right now but once construction is done the sale cars will be shifted over to one side of the lot leaving a large driveway to access the detail bay. Street parking for customer cars isn`t a problem, and if I need more space I can lease yard space across the road. The biggest problem right now is that the landlord has a few old junk cars on the lot that have been there for years...looks awful when customers visit the shop.

A few progress shots.

The door is finally in and it looks awesome. Still need to put up the lights and figure out some storage/shelving and stuff.

This is looking sweet. Congrats and best wishes! I`m really feeling the overhead door. I need to make a note of it for when one day I can have a shop like this.
