Hi everyone. My mother had her car vandalized. There are scratches nearly all over the hatch of her Pontiac Vibe.

I was hoping someone on this forum could tell me if this looks like damage that can be fixed (or at least helped) by something over the counter, if it could be helped by a professional auto detailer, or if this is something that would require a body shop.

My fingernail does not catch on all but maybe two of the scratches.

Ouch! That`s pretty sad when you don`t have anything else to do with your life then to bleep with other peoples stuff....not cool....not at all!

That being said, OTC wise you could try Meguiar`s Ultimate Compound. I`ve gotten pretty decent results with removing swirls and RIDS but I dunno, some of them, they look pretty bad. It costs around 10 dollars so if you want to go ahead with the DIY route, and it works then excellent, If not then I would take it to a Pro who can evaluate it and determine if he can do anything to fix it. I see your in Fl, how close are you to TAMPA? There`s a pro here by the name of Garry Dean that might be able to help you out if you can`t fix it.

Those two that your nail catches on will need either repaired or having the whole hatched repainted.

Ohh and welcome to Autopia, too bad it`s under not so good circumstances!

Yikes, sorry some idiot did that. Ultimate Compound or ScratchX could work, but its going to take a lot of time by hand. You have nothing to lose but time. Since some of the scratches are deeper, it will probably take a repaint to make it 100%.

A pro detailer like Garry Dean or check http://www.autopia.org/find-professional-detailer/browselinks.php?c=6 might est bet if you don`t have much experience with paint correction

I would really think that a pro like Garry is the way to go. Shouldn`t take him too much time vs you doing it by hand. that is just my opinion of course. Either way, please let us know of the results.
