I realize that most people will never reach for HD SPEED for compounding, and that includes me, but when testing the product at the 3D headquarters, I had to find out for myself what it "could" do if called upon.

No tricks, in fact the following day when 3D had their event, I handed the 3D PC over to a woman in the audience, with a yellow HD cutting pad and some HD SPEED on the pad, ready to go. I did a section to show the speed and technique first. She was able to correct the section she was given and this person never held a polisher in her life. I did correct her a few times to make sure that the pad was kept flat, but otherwise she was on her own. That happened in front of at least 30 people.

The initial testing was done on an older Toyota Camry, in flat black.

The following day for the demonstration, we used a black Chevy that was also pretty swirled up (it was a rental)

Here is the condition of the Toyota:

Here is the result after a few passes - I realize that the paint is Toyota paint and that I didn`t use an AUDI, but still. Btw, that yellow pad is awesome!

So it is pad dependent similar to UNO? Good to know. :)

Yes Scott. Great with MF pads as well.

I realize you may not know the answer to this, but how does something like UNO that has good cutting potential become pad dependent? How does something that isn`t supposed to cut hard like SPEED also become pad dependent? I`m just curious because obviously the pad (wool vs MF vs foam vs soft foam) makes a difference, but how is a product designed to be pad dependent? What properties make it behave this way? I`ve wondered this since I`ve become interested in HD products.

Had my first go today with Speed and Polish. I tried a variety of pads- older 450SL conv. It had been repainted...measured from 5 to 9 in some areas. While it did not leave the surface 100% free, it made great improvements. The best on this paint was the orange HD pads. I do not have yellow as when I bought mine, the orange was the "cutting" foam and then green and red.

Customer was very happy so that is all good for me. I have a beater `99 to polish in the morning- red. When I used my nano towel tonight, it sounded like the car was sitting in a dentist`s chair getting a root canal! Talk about rough!!!

I am doing the Polish. One Plus for Polish: Seems that you can work this product as long as you wish. I`m using the mf pads with this one. About 80 to 85% correction- this is a real beater!

I`ll get a black car soon.

Rob

I put a picture of the 450 on my FB page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Santa-Barbara-Auto-Detailing/251541534861674

I don`t think they are "designed" to be pad dependent - Technology has advanced immersible and I think that is what allows one to use something like UNO to cut with a wool pad and even finish with UNO just by switching to a finishing pad.
