This is the second time I`ve had to remove over spray from this car. First time, about 18 months ago, a painting crew painted stripes on the track at the school where the 335`s owner works and unfortunately, the track is right by the teacher`s parking lot. That job was a nightmare, I think I put somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 hours into that job the over spray was so thick. I even had to wetsand some of the car to get it off.

Last month, I get a call from the owner. He has a problem with over spray again. A company near the school that builds water tanks for trucks was cleaning their paint guns outside. He talked it over with the owner of the company who said he would file a claim with his insurance. My customer wanted to know if I should tackle it again or he should get estimates from body shops since we already had to do some wetsanding for the previous over spray problem. He was afraid if we had to do that again, the car might need repainting. I suggested he take it to a shop a friend of mine owns, because if the car would end up needing repainting, he is the one I`d trust to do it right. He got an estimate for $2200 (a couple other shops were even higher) that factored in some repainting if they had to do any wetsanding in areas I`d already done.

Then he gets a call from the owner of the water tank company who proceeds to tell him he won`t pay for the damage and it is up to him (the 335 owner) to prove the paint came from his business. But this same business now has stopped the practice of cleaning the guns outside. Hmmm....

So he calls me to see if I can get the over spray off without resorting to any overly aggressive methods since now he has to foot the bill. I looked over the car last week, did a couple test sections and luckily it wasn`t nearly as thick and heavy as the last time. Went out today to take care of the car. Used a combination of Optimum Opti-Raser clay sponges (has 5 different ones to try out) and Clay Magic blue clay. Once my son and I got the car clean, what worked best is him going over the car with the more aggressive clay sponges, using a bucket of ONR as lube and me following behind him with another bucket of ONR and another clay sponge and Clay Magic Blue. My son then clayed the glass with Clay Magic purple (aggressive) clay. Using this method, we were able to remove all the over spray in about 2 hours. We then lightly polished the car (he was way more concerned about the over spray than having it 100% swirl free) and sealed the paint. Start to finish took my son and I working together just a little over 3 hours.

ONR wash, Opti-Raser clay sponges, Clay Magic blue clay also on paint, Clay Magic Aggressive Purple Clay on glass

Meguiars #205 using a Meguiars yellow foam polishing pad and my PC 7424 XP and speed 6

HD Poxy to protect the paint

Armor All on tires/fenderwells

Really hard to get shots of the over spray, this is the only one that really turned out.

After claying, polishing and sealing. The owner was thrilled we were able to remove the over spray without resorting to any aggressive methods and for what he considered a very reasonable price in light of the estimates he got from body shops.
