So I`ve recently bought a 1986 bmw 635 that was parked outdoors for 12 years. I`ve had the car for several months now and have been fixing pretty much everything on it as part of my project. One of the main things I have yet to do is somehow fix this clearcoat. I guess some bird crap or tree sap ate away at some of it and heres what it looks like:

I am fairly experienced with detailing but I have never seen anything like this. Can this be fixed with a good cutting compound ( I have some megs 105/205) and a good cutting pad? Or will I have to do some sanding? Anything else you guys recommend?
Thanks
