Browsing the site of Car and Driver, I found this unbelievable, frightening article:

All one has to do is the comments section below the article.

Bet this Mike Sutton never gets to write another article on vehicle detailing.

Might be a repost but at least the link this time has the full article that was in the magazine, where the old threads link only had snip-its and a write up.

Hmmmm..."polishing a vehicle with a rotating wheel, just like a pro detailer would—works by temporarily heating the paint’s clear coat until it softens into a viscous liquid that fills in and dissipates blemishes"....I suspected I was wasting time buying polishes/compounds. I should simply use WD40 as lube for my pads to aid re-liquification of the paint! Much cheaper and more honest! :nervous:

Hey that`s where I read about the heating/melting thing I mentioned in my newb thread, good times. Glad I came here and got the real info.

Ben, this author should really take the famous John Wayne quote to heart.

"Life is tough, it`s even tougher if you are stupid!"

That pretty much says it all regarding the author of the piece.

You mean you missed the part where they said "This article sponsored by PPG Automotive Refinish Division"
