I found three styles of tape in my garage and I either never knew - or have forgotten - which is the "best" to use for taping prior to polishing.

Any suggestions as to which one you guys would use?

- 3M Masking tape for Production Painting #2020 (1")

- 3M Scotch Blue Painters tape for multi surfaces #2090 (1") - BLUE

- 3m Scotch Blue painters tape for delicate surfaces #2080 (1 1/2") - BLUE

Thanks!!

I use the #2090 Blue and the #2080 Blue both on the car and around the house and have had good luck with both.

Here`s an idea: Use them all, and report back with how you feel each tape performed for you.

Include environmental conditions too (ie. sunny/humid)

Some things to pay attention too is; level of adhesiveness, stretch (rounding corners), ease of removal and if residue was left on paint after removal.

I`ve kindof stopped using so much tape lately, some pictures I see on forums I have no idea how people deal with that paint that`s been covered by their tape but I just tape the plastic and large cracks now. Can`t stand having the edge of a. Panel not polished

3434 seems to be the standard one used. However since you do not have it, you could either try them all out (as suggested) or go by using the 80 and 90 only to benefit from the varying width.

Perhaps it would be good idea to try with small parts of all 3 on the door sills to test adhesiveness and avoid excessive residue on your finish.

Frog Tape, the green tape you can buy at Home Depot, Walmart, etc., is the best I`ve used. It has very light adhesion, and doesn`t really leave any residue at all. The 3M blue tape on the other hand, has been a nightmare every time I used it.
