You either have to subscribe online or pick up a copy of Car and Driver to read the actual article but the gist of it is that you use a rotary to heat the clear coat to soften it to a viscous liquid that fills in swirls and defects. Step 5 is pretty funny too, applying a coat of wax will help mask swirl marks. Suggesting those new to detailing start off with a rotary is pretty hilarious as well. :lol

I hope people do what they say, that will mean a ton of swirled up vehicles for us to make money off of in the next few months.

Geesh, that`s horrible. C & D needs to be checked.

This article was really beneath C&D. As the top magazine in the industry, I would have expected them to phone up Stoops at Meguiars, Phillips at AG or Forrest at Mothers. Any of those guys would have been more than glad to give them some info. Instead they found a crackpot "detailer."

First article I read in that issue. Beyond belief.

I didn`t understand step one. It said something along the lines of getting the car wet and using a foam pad to buff by hand..

Also through the whole article it was telling you to keep the car wet so you don`t dry buff.

I truly feel bad for the person that takes this to heart. I`ve been detailing on the side for years and I`m STILL hesitant to try a rotary.

Nice follow up post Scott.

I seubscride and I saw the article. Pretty lame. You would think that they could get Accumulator to write a much better article for free. His post are longer and way more informative than the article in question.

Sorry for the poor typing. Arthritis getting in the way. All those years playing basketball and breaking my fingers has caught up to me.

I guess they are saying rotary since that is what the banner ads on the page are selling. Bet the article probably mentions the products from the ads as well.
