1988 BMW 535. Customer picked up this car for $1500! He had a long commute and would rather use up a $1500 car than a new car. Really good condition other than the single stage paint looking a little tired. Just one polishing step, owner was more interested in protection than anything else.

ONR wash, Meguiars white clay

Optimum Hyper Polish with a yellow Meguiars polishing pad and my PC 7424 XP

HD Proxy to seal

Armor All for tires/fenderwells

----------------------

1991 BMW M5. 2nd car I have polished since my bike wreck and separated shoulder (detailed an XK8 on Monday but heavy storms meant it stayed in the garage and I couldn`t get good pics) and my shoulder held up pretty well.

Half the car was single stage (back end and both doors on the driver`s side, the rest was base coat/clear coat and not in great shape. A few areas with the beginning of clear coat failure so while I was able to knock the swirls down quite a bit, there just isn`t enough paint on half this car to hit it hard without the risk of making the clear coat fail even faster. The owner just wants to keep it looking as good as possible until he gets it repainted in a year or two.

Same process as the 535 except I used Optimum Opti-Seal as the LSP since this car will be sitting under trees at his office and OS has great resistance to bird bombs.

Looks great. Many detailers do good work but I am more impressed with someone who revives an old car as compared to working on a brand new car. This is where you tell the men from the boys! :)

Scottwax- Glad to hear you`re getting back into the swing of things!

Those are beautiful, thanks for sharing them. I bet the `88 is about the best $1500 car that guy`ll ever have!

Hey! but am not trying to be rude or anything but if anyone works on new or used exotics they would know how picky the customers are and to tell you the truth i would rather do old cars then picky customers exotics! its olmost as hard to do both :) Scott knows himself lol. good job Scott on the cars they look awesome

Both look great Scott!

On the fenderwells, are you using AA foam?

Thanks, I feel a lot better. Was able to wash two SUVs, two black cars and a Smart Car today with minimal discomfort. The specialist told me to get back into my normal routine and let the level of pain be my guide.

sacdetailing-basic details are my bread and butter, kind of like doing them and exceeding the customer`s expectations. With exotics, the expectations are already sky high, harder to overachieve on them!

Mike-I use the regular original formula spray version of Armor All, much more cost effective IMO.

Lucky you. Old and black. Which one was harder? Glad to see you`re feeling better.

That was pretty quick! The fact that the specialist said that makes me think that everything`s working out OK. The Smart is one thing, but there can be some stretching/etc. when doing SUVs.

Do you find that using polishers is easier on you than doing similar motions by hand? When my shoulders were messed up I had to buff off/etc. via machine.

That first older one, brings back memories to me. Before I got the Caddy, I was this close to getting a regular 5 just like that. It was a thrill to be behind the wheel, but there was this persistent, loud buzz that sounded like some kind of fan. I asked about it, the dealer tried to blow it off, something about the whole thing just didn`t seem right, so I never got the car. I rarely see them now, but when I do, I remember that car, and what could`ve been. I know I would`ve tried have made look as awesome as that! :2thumbs:

Thanks! The 535 was a bit harder because it was more oxidized.

Accumulator-reach across my body right to left is still a bit painful and my reach isn`t that great (makes cleaning the inside of the windshield tough) but using the buffer, reach across the roof, etc isn`t bad at all. Seems if I can do something one day with minimal discomfort, the next day I can do it fine. I guess I am just stretching out the muscles I didn`t use for 8 days while in a sling and my shoulder adapting to the collar bone no longer being tied down with ligaments. I`m probably less than a week away from being able to throw a baseball again but swinging a bat, since I go right to left, no telling how long. Maybe 1-2 weeks from riding again. Like the specialist said, the pain will go away and I should regain close to 100% function of my shoulder.

I agree with your analysis on Opti-Seal vs. bird bombs. During this lousy spring we`ve had here in the Northeast, I had an unusual nice day, and wanted to give the Focus some attention. I washed, clayed, and looked for an LSP that would be quick. I grabbed the Opti-Seal, and I must say that I`m happy with the bird-bomb protection, as it sits at night under a utility line favored by the local avian suspects.

Now that it has warmed up, and I`ve finally gotten tomatoes and jalapenos planted--a polish/LSP is coming on the BMW. I`m happy that I pretty much got a year without the need to break out the PC, and even then, it will be a minor polish.

I had forgotten about the inline skates. That was a smart move to get some exercise while you get ready to get the bike on the road. Of course my "Scottwax inline skates" comment dates me on this forum!
