Looks like several here have been trying out these coatings. David Fermani`s thread does a fantastic job of showcasing the durability and hydrophobic qualities of Opticoat.

From reviewing threads here and on other forums, it is clear these products have durability and hyrdro phobic properties, but on 2 other important criteria I haven`t been able to draw any conclusions:

1) Scratch resistance - do these coatings improve scratch resistance? If so to what extent - e.g. even with the most careful washing, most black cars will need polishing after 6-12 months. Do the coatings reduce this frequency, or not?

2) Appearance. How glossy and how deep is the shine from these products? How does it compare to a protective Carnauba Wax like Swissvax Shield, or a Polymer like Zaino?

What are the thoughts of the experts on the forum?

Hey there. Thanks for the compliment on my test.

Yes. They sure do in a few ways. If dirt isn`t sticking as much to your finish less marring will be occuring. Also, OC is actually much harder than even the hardest clear coat also means less scratches will be occuring.

2) Appearance. How glossy and how deep is the shine from these products? How does it compare to a protective Carnauba Wax like Swissvax Shield, or a Polymer like Zaino?

Personally, on perfectly polished paint, the differences are very minor and subtle. Unlike how the extra look of most waxes/sealants wear off after 1-2 washes, OC dooesn`t.
