View Full Version : Why isn`t there an interior detailing product which actually CREATES a matte finish?

I know there are some products which can give a "natural" look, and that there are some which can be buffed to a somewhat matte finish (eg, Optimum Leather Protectant), but is there something out there that can create or increase a matte finish? Something that would even make MORE matte the stock vinyl?

Let me know if I`m missing something! Thanks!

Have you looked at 1z Cockpit Premium?

Yes, I do have it. It seems to maintain the European finishes very well. But many Japanese interiors for example do not have as high quality soft-touch plastics, and their intrinsic "matteness" is just not as great.

Is there a product which can make stock plastics look even more matte?

I know there are spray on urethane products that are meant to adhere like paint. But these are not durable, and I would much prefer a simpler solution. A true matte dressing would be ideal.

How about 303 Aerospace Protectant? I`ve used it forever for interiors and it`s not even close to shiny. I call it a satin look, others might call it matte, or are you looking for something even more matte than that?

Hey this looks promising! Anybody here try it, any reviews?

Yeah, I have tried 303, and would be looking for something more matte, and definitely not satin.

Swissvax stuff in general gets excellent reviews. I`ve never needed something like your looking for, always use 1z Cockpit Premium.

It sounds like he wants something that will actually dull the finish down to produce less sheen. Although not extreme, 303 does impart some of its own shine to the surfaces I have applied it to (IMO/IME). ....which is the reason I don`t use it on my interiors (I prefer 1Z CP or Meguiars QID which is quite similar).

I too like IZ Cockpit Premium, though I recently tried CGs Silk Shine and like it too. For the Silk Shine, I spritzed it directly on a cotton towel wiped in good, then immediately wiped it off. Nice matte finish. Maybe wipe the surface with 50/50 distilled water/alcohol first, then apply your product of choice?

Sönus cockpit detailer?

Even the widely available Meguiars interior quik detailer leaves a nice matte finish.
