Oakes - Detailed: 2008 Audi A6

This 2008 Audi A6, in white came to us primarily for a Road Tar problem as a result of construction. It was in need of a full overhaul, so we performed paint correction on the vehicle however, 100% perfection was not wanted as it is a daily driver and will be saved for when the vehicle is to be sold. Not a picture intensive write up, but definitely gets the point across!

Process:



Prep took from 9:30 to 12:30. First had to take car of tar lower panels, tarminator was used and worked great. Was relatively easy to take off. Then car was sprayed with citrus degreaser and left on for a minute, rinsed off and washed with Citrus wash. Car had a lot of rail dust and took 3 hours alone to take all off. Washed wheels with CG WC and exhaust tips were cleaned with polishing soap. After car was washed again and dried, all trim was taped off, front side markers were removed. Paint readings were taken, front was reading in 100-144 and rest of the car was in 300-344 microns, small part of trunk was reading from 88 to 94 microns. Did test panel and after trying several combos we went with most aggressive combination. Clear coat on Audi is very hard, probably as hard as ceramic clear found on post 2005 MB and BMW E46 M3. Bumpers and tight spots of the car were done with wool and 105 on PC, rest of the car was done with same combo on rotary. After compounding front of car was done with green pad and 106 and rest of the car with orange and M205 on PC. Tail lights were polished with same combo as car on PC. After polishing, car was paint cleansed and sealed with JetSeal

Did you have to deal with tar on the wheels at all? Can tarminator or solvent based bodyshop prep be used on wheels to remove tar?



I was working on a Kompressor the other day that had (I think) tar on the wheels but I did not want to use wheel acid on them because the finish was damaged in some areas...did not want to damage them further. Non-acid wheel cleaner did not work, steam did not work, clay did not work.

I have used tarminator on the wheels before with great success!



The P21S polishing soap is definitely a must try!
