ts|s Detailing VS the 178k Silverado

1998 Silverado 1500 Z71, standard cab with 178,000 miles. The customer purchased the vehicle off of a young kid who obviously took it mud-bogging. Their major complaint was the interior`s musty smell and the carpet`s ragged look. They attempted to clean the HVAC and yanked the dash off so as to gain access-using bleach to clean all of the ports.



I gave them an estimate and told them it might take 2 days. I was lucky it was just the standrd cab!!! The pics will do most of the talking. Some of the colored stains WOULD not come out, but i think she looks much better for 178k, 13 year old 4x4!



Process:

• Removed seats

• Vacuumed and dry brush-scraped any thick stains and dirt piles

• Sprayed Klima-Cleaner disinfecting mold killer into vents and defroster

• Replaced dash components

• Mixed a gallon of water with detail kings carpet shampoo and Megs APC, combined with horse-hair and fine detailing brush on all plastic. Used CG`s grime reaper @ 6:1 for stubborn stains.

• Mixed a new gallon of hot water with DK carpet shampoo and CG`s grime reaper for maximum effectivness. thoroughly brushed into carpet with Flex DA and carpet-brush attachement (i wish I got a photo of this in action).

• Extracted with MyteeLiteII

• Seats were reinstalled, sprayed with carpet shampoo mixed with water in a traditional trigger-sprayer, then extracted. Stubborn stains brushed out with stiff brush and Folex.

• Plastic treated with Adams in and out spray

• Windows cleaned with DP Krystal Cleaner

• Air freshend with CG`s Stripper Scent.

Thanks Tss! Had not seen these before. Going to have to order one! Edge system allows you to change backing plate/pad sizes on the flex. Now they have the new 4" BP but this was the only gig in town for years. Carpet brush looks like it makes easy work of spot treatments!

Gotta ask- why did you reinstall the seats *before* extracting them? I`ve sometimes taken seats out just to clean `em :think:



Bet the carpet brush on the Flex is something else given the forced rotation!



maxepr1- I dunno if I`d want to use the Edge adaptor with the carpet brush...people break `em on the Flex just polishing paint and scrubbing carpets would put a *lot* more stress on it.

Nice work Jaison on a dirty one. Interior looks like it came out great. Only 1 complaint, but it more personal then anything. I would be upset if I got my car back with dressing on the interior. I hate going to turn a steering wheels and my hand slides from the dressing. I just hate interior dressing sll together. You really outdid this one. Taking out the seats and pulling dash pieces is the way to do it. Outstanding work.

I wouldn`t bust out the flex/etc for spot treatments. I only use it for doing a full set of floormats, or an SUV`s cargo section. It`s very cumbersome and I like a good old stiff hand job...I MEAN hand brush for spot cleaning.

Thanks duder! I was working in my single car garge, not a lot of room, surely not for that big *** truck and the seats. Plus having them bolted in place did just that-KEPT them from moving around.

I love the combo-it`s saved me a LOT of energy that would otherwise be spent hand scrubbing.

Thanks buddy, I had you in mind going into this one, knowing your old stories of pulling out all the stops for POS hopeless cases for the sake of autopian tendencies. Also, I knew you`d yell at me for dressing the interior. Difference of personal taste. For one, that plastic was so dried out (the owner scrubbed it with bleach trying to kill the mold and it looked like it was sun-baked) Look at the first photo of the steering wheel compared to the last one. I just couldn`t give it back to him with the plastic in such crap condition. Secondly, the dressings I used left the surfaces shiney, but dry to the touch (Check out Adam`s In and Out spray). I did take pre-caution and did MF buff the steering wheel/column though just to ensure it wasn`t a greasy surface.

Thank you. It`s nice, like a strawberry-vanilla scent. Does not actually smell like THE perfume strippers wear. I forget the name, I`ve got a friend in that business and he told me it a LONG time ago.

Nice job man! I`ve got a buddy with a 97 K1500 Ext cab, that had been through hell and back. We took it mudding and sunk it pretty good this time with water and mud running in the cab...We found a canal that was deeper than we thought LOL. He said he didn`t care so we just yanked the carpet from the truck, hit it with the pressure washer with various degreasers, carpet shampoos, apc`s you name it we threw it at it. Took it to his barn with the tractor and bucket, and hung it to dry with fans blowers, and a couple air movers he had laying around. Needless to say for what it was it came out great lol.

Great work! I love me some trucks and muscle cars, both of which are not commonly found on this site, so it was really cool to see it cleaned up so well!
