View Full Version : How to clean off alloy wheel stains?

I found some stains on my alloy wheels. I drove my car for a car wash and also tried to wash off the stains with water and mild detergent, but it did not work. The owner manual said I should not use strong acid or alkaline to clean my wheels. I am very new to car care and so I am afraid that the cleaner I would use may damage the coating/finish.

Any suggestions how I can do to clean off the stains?

Thanks in advance.

Pictures will help 1000%. Depending on the wheel and the stain you might need acid.

I am having problems uploading images using the Manage Attachments option. Where else can I upload the images? I`m getting an error #2038.

Set up a Photobucket.com account and upload them there and then link the picture to here. It`s easy.

No, looks like streaking created from a strong chemical. What degreasers and/or compounds do you have at hand?

I only have household all-purpose cleaners like Vim, Fantastik, Mr. Clean multi-purpose cleaner. Any recommended cleaner I can try?

Try fantastic with a toothbrush and see if it lifts. Otherwise, instead of a buying a compound that you`ll never utilize I`d would contact a local Autopian to see if they can meet with you to take care of it. What state/city are you in?

I tried Fantastik and it turned out pretty good. It didn`t remove all the stains but around 80-90% of the stains.

I`m living in Toronto, Canada. Is there any autopia site in Canada?

Do you know what could cause these stains? Road salts?

Thanks very much for your help.
