GT-R , worst paint ever - i fail

even if u pay me double i will not do another one!

i know the infiniti paint is soft but easy to finish nice.

this paint on nissan gt-r is a pain! a big one....so soft and weird.



i did one step only SIP on meguiar`s polish pad and Flex DA , but with long run and slow movement ... took me forever plus when i try to use any final polish on a test spot i mess up the finish left behind by SIP ?!...i FAIL.

took me 2 hours and 3-5 combinations to fix the test spot where i try the 2nd step ( finish step)

i try : 205 , 3m ultrafina , prc , finish pad , polish pad , 3m blue pad , g110 , flex da lower speed , hi-speed , NOTHING! SIP was only thing that work at least to get it close to better finish.

anyway the car is better than before but still need some work.

Lol thanks for the entertaining thread. The results look great and are a major improvement over what you had to start with for sure. GT-R`s have a bad rep for that exact reason you listed, but I`m glad you were able to help the girl look better than ever!

IIRC the GTR`s have 2 types of paint? Softer type which is the self healing and if you need to treat it softly and the minor marring should "self heal" with 10-14 days depending on climate.



The other type they offer is the "hard clear", obvious what that is.



Maybe you encountered the self healing? If so thats why it so hard to finish out, the molecules in the paint dilate. So the abrasive keeps marring and the self healing keeps starting but then you pass over it again etc etc.



If it is self heal and you do end up doing it again you need a super soft pad and super light abrasive. Keep the heat really low.

3M Ultrafina and a blue UF waffle pad work really well on that paint.
