I just got my Highline Meter II in the mail and tried to use it on my car. Readings seem to work, they change with repainted surfaces higher levels than the repainted ones...

However, Im detailing a vette right now and it is not giving me a reading at all. It shows --- on the screen but when i use it on my car it works fine.

Whats the deal?? I know about surfaces changing and all that but i got the one that changes from f to nf just for this reason.

Corvettes are fiberglass, the highline meter only works on magnetic surfaces.

It says it reads on ferrous or non ferrous surfaces... So this still doesn`t work on fiberglass???

Fiberglass is neither a ferrous metal, or a non ferrous metal. It is fiberglass. The Defelsko PosiTestor 200 would work for this, but it`s slightly more expensive than a Highline.

It says it reads on ferrous or non ferrous surfaces... So this still doesn`t work on fiberglass???Try it on plastic bumpers..it won`t work. It works on aluminum and steel bases.

Wait - Aluminum is not magnetic - how does it work on aluminum?

Aluminum is not magnetic, but it interacts with magnets. See: Aluminum Interactions with Magnets (http://www.pureenergysystems.com/os/MagneticMotors/MXLO/theory/aluminum_and_mangets/index.html)

I dont know if this explains why the Meter works on aluminum or not though.

Interesting..... only reason I know it isn`t magnetic is that I have an induction cooktop and doesn`t heat as does SS and iron based cookware.
