i was detailing in a casino parking lot today about a block away from other cars/people. Out of no where my whole set up is encircled by 2 cars. They drove around twice then one lowered his window and shouted :furious: "whatchya doin?" So i walked over, confident in my full 5`2" frame, and said "i`m detailing this customer`s car." "how much you get for dat?" he scowled. "prices start at $160 a car, $180 suv, would you like one of my cards?" "NO....I own a detailing shop down the road. I didn`t know you could detail in this parking lot. We get a buck-25 for that kinda thang and we do tha engine n` polish it too. Jez me n` my friend. We do 50 cars a week. We use the best products in the biz, CarBrite! Whaz that yew got thar, a clay bar? We can beat that process with an acid bath." :thx

what losers that they have to try to one up you as if you cared (also bother you why you are working). i bet your end result would be better and that`s what counts. how many times have we heard someone doing a detail for cheaper and seen the end result. you could of been a smart a$$ and said before they left, "you get what you pay for"...

Some guys from around the corner of my shop came by a few days ago. They had a look on their face like they were being smooth about it. :chuckle:

When ever I get a new client, they always stop by their place first thinking it might be my shop. They ask my client what they want, the client ask for me, they are told it`s not my place and my client goes thanks but no thanks and leaves. :D *according to what my clients tell me*

I`ve had a few other car wash guys swing by doing the same thing. I will still introduce myself and be friendly to them. As far as I am concerned there is room for all of us and we don`t compete. They are going after the $80 full details and I am going after something much more(dollar and result-wise). None of them seem to feel the same way and have nasty attitudes.

Not that using certain types of "acid bath"s can`t be a good subsitute for clay in some cases....

tssdetailing- Glad it didn`t turn into the kind of confrontation you see on the evening news!
