Hello Autopians,

Noob here! I have been reading this great site for a couple of weeks now and eventually it had it`s effect: I bought a used PC, a set of 5" LC pads and M105/M205 8 oz set. I also got a free sampler of Poorboy`s EX-P sealant and now I am ready to do some good ol` hacking on mine and my girlfriend`s car:buffing:. So, I have a 2003 jet black BMW 3-series and she drives a 2001 maroon Hyunday Elantra, both cars a purchased used, been fairly neglected over the years and now they are daily drivers and they are parked outside (no garage). Actually I just bought the BMW in May, and it looked alright when I saw it first, but it was late afternoon and no direct sunlight, but let me tell you, it had the full "Hack and swirls" special performed by some idiot wit a rotary. The hood was entirely hologrammed, and a lot of the other panels were as well. So I hit the hood with M105 and yellow, then orange LC pad and that took care of the holograms effortlessly. I then followed up with M205 on white pad and finished with EX-P on a black LC pad, It looks much better now, but unfortunately all the chips and deep scratches stand out much more. Anyway, last night I decided to try something else on the hyundai and I work 7 days now, and the earliest I get hoe it is 6 pm, so not much daylight left and I wanted to get it to look ok. I hit it with M105 on a orange pad, did the whole car and it noticeably improved just from that, but I was running out of time and had a bottle of Meg`s Cleaner Wax laying around so I "finished" it with that . At least it had some protection on.

Now sorry for my long post but I just wanted to give some info about what am I doing and what I want to achieve, here is my question:

Is there a sealant I can put on top of Meguiar`s Cleaner Wax? and if this is not possible what sealant would you recommend in my situation?

I am not looking for show appearance(I can`t even dream about it in the condition the cars are) and I can`t spend too much time on this either, I am after a good , clean looking daily driver sealant that I can use on both cars, I need something really durable and decent looking, so I can go about 3-4 months between applications and if possible to be able to go on trim as well.

Thanks all for the responses!

UPGP is said to bond over anything.

Sealants go on before the wax not after . i re clay the car then finish your polishing you were doing even if it takes you a week or 2 to get done then seal and wax. but don`t use a cleaner wax on the sealant just us a pure wax the cleaner wax will remove some of the sealant

You can safely and successfully put UPGP or Opti Seal straight over Meguiar`s Cleaner Wax

Any of the Meguiar`s sealants will bond. NXT 2.0, M21 2.0 or M20 come to mind. That said, 3-4 months of durability is dependent on your environment and how well you perform maintenance on the paint. I find any of their sealants easy to apply and remove. I would also recommend using Ultimate Quik Wax as a quick and easy extender for your wax or sealant. Its easy to get to 3-4 months if you occasionally spend ten minutes after a wash with an UQW wowo refresher.

Thank you guys for the replies and the advice. Based on the advice here I am debating between NXT 2.0 (relatively cheaper and available OTC) and Opti-Seal which seams pretty good and easy to use and is fairly new so might be better. Also, on a side note, I know there are tons of threads , will I be able to apply Klasse SG over the cleaner wax, basically using Meg`s CW as my AIO?

I`d go over it once with *something* to improve upon the finish that the M105/orange left. Yeah, I know..but I`d do it even on a lawnmower ;) Won`t take long.

OK, OK...sorry, couldn`t resist :o

As for the sealant, I`d use Collinite 845 Insulator Wax. It`s a "wax-sealant hybrid" as best I can tell, and will outlast/outprotect many "sealants". It bonds to anything and is trim-friendly. It`s incredibly user-friendly and it`s inexpensive. No-brainer choice IMO.

No, KSG is rather finicky about what it`ll bond to. Anyhow, it really works best when heavily layered and it doesn`t sound like you want to deal with that. I`m quite certain that you`d be a *LOT* happier with the 845.

On the "cleaner wax as an AIO", yeah, that can work fine, just keep the cleaner wax off black trim. Top with the 845 before too long, but you could wait until after the next regularly scheduled wash if that`s more convenient.

Oh, and Welcome to Autopia!

Thanks Accumulator! I know I am slacking and should hit it again with M205, probably on white pad, but really wanted to get some result and try my new bought toys... Anyway, after this and all the research I did on the forum it will be 845, especially because of the "trim friendly" feature. So my game plan is after a wash or two I will reclay and finish with M205 on white LC pad, then I will apply 845 and should be done for a while, maybe some QD suggestions to maintain 845? And what would be a good car wash soap for using on 845?

Oh, and check this out, here are the holograms on the BMW:

And after a few passes with M105 on orange pad:

Thanks for all the help!

I only use Megs #21 for sealant, and collonite 845 for wax.

Hey, you sure did take care of the holograms :xyxthumbs

And I`m glad you took my "do a follow up" advice in the right way, I wasn`t trying to :nono you.

I usually use Griot`s SpeedShine on 845. I do *LOVE* FK425 and FK146, but I somehow gravitate towards the griot`s for waxes, even "sorta-sealanty" waxes like 845.

I was *everything* with the rather pricey Griot`s Car Wash, which I consider the best on the market.
