So I was asked to try a IPHONE ultrasonic paint thickness gauge. Its is apparently able to read all surfurces. I`ll keep you filled in as I play with the demo and its app. :xyxthumbs

Ill have some updates tonight for everyone. To sum it up, Information gets transfer threw a probe that connects threw a data cable transfer. Like the supplied USB cable. I was asked to compare reading to ensure accuracy. As far as I know only one other person that is a well known detailer has this. We discussed this last night when the packages arrived at each of our homes. All it is an app and a probe. Its actually gonna run about $425.00 for the probe an the app is free. This is all I`m allow to discuss, but will have photos when I`m done playing. ;)

How would a phone accurately gauge paint depth?

That`d be through the probe he`s talking about. The app would provide the programming to disect and analyze the data the probe takes in...Very simple concept actually...I`d be all over this as long as it doesn`t drain the battery like most constantly running apps do.

That sounds awesome. I have never heard of a PTG that reads both metal bodied cars, and also carbon fiber bodied cars in one gauge. The price is right though.

I think the DeFelsko PTGs do just that.

Nope, Defelsko has different gauges for composite and metal bodied cars.

^ true, but it`s more like they have models that read metal, and ones that read anything. Of course the problem with ultrasonic coating thickness gauges is their accuracy

Maybe they might have two different probes.

Really looking forward to this one and I am now subscribed.
