Process:

Wash: Dawn to get rid of wax/Meguire’s Gold otherwise

Meguire’s Clay Bar with Spray Lube

After a test spot of m205 I upped it to m105 and that got the swirls out.

M105 with 5.5”LC Orange pad using a PC

M205 with 5.5” LC White pad

M205 with 4” LC Orange Pad for various small things

3M 2000 Grit Sand paper for some big scratches

Wheels: Meguires All Wheel and Tire Cleaner

Free Labor from Bawazir and his Cousin = Priceless (LOL They wanted to learn to use the PC and I was happy to give some pointers)

The Beginning

Clayed and the car was a little dirty

Bawazir using the foam gun to clean the clay lube off the car

Test spot on the hood with the reflection of the ceiling light.

Bawazir and his cousin learning how to use the PC (My LC white pad with M205 turned out to be difficult for the new PC users. It would bunch up or fly off. After a few instructions, they were able to keep the pad flat on the paint and remembered to turn off the machine before lifting the pad off).

A Megs Gold wash getting ready to blowdry and wax

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm7/Numbles/Mercury/IMG_0708-1.jpg

All waxed up with probably the worst wax I have had the pleasure to work with. I was paid to buff so when they brought wax I decided I wanted to see a finished product for some reason. Don’t remember what wax it was but it took the better part of 30 minutes to wipe the residue off.

And the Finished Shots.

Is this the guy that wanted a full swirl removal for under $200?

Looks good considering the process. I would have gone all rotary and with with Blackfire or Zaino as LSP.

M105/M205 was enough to get rid of the swirls.

However, when looking over the car I made it known that a rotary was needed to do a full correction. The car had deep scratches in multiple places. Some of the deeper ones wetsanded out nicely. Some were too deep for a PC but we agreed on getting the swirls out due to the time allowed.

Most of the car took multiple passes with m105 just to get the swirls out. So for anyone looking to do a correction on a Marauder, go straight for the rotary and expect at least 6 hours for a car this size.

Looks like an under $200 detail IMO. I would of avoided this situation if it were me anyways.

Hmm. I`m open to constructive criticism. Are you saying something could have been done better? What would you like to have seen differently? I`m always interested in improving my work.

I can understand you trying to help the guy out and all but 3 different people working on the car, 2 learning how to. The one guy was wearing a huge watch and dragging the cord along the panel. The owner wanted to use his stuff instead of letting you do the job. The one picture has tons of compound / polish / wax in the jamb rather bad. Also post sun shots of after panels too, show the hard work you put in.

I wouldn`t of taken the job for several reasons-

1 - Too cheap

2 - I either do the job my way or not at all

I just personally wouldn`t of taken this job to make a few bucks. I`d rather have a day off and do my personal car.

I see your point.

The one picture in the finished shot is compound that I missed. During the last wash before lsp I was snapping pictures when I should have been focusing on the car.

I admit that having 2 extra people switching off with the PC was distracting to my process. But the main point of the day was to remove swirls and pass down some detailing tips to someone looking to learn more about keeping up their car. Which I was happy to do.

Yes it was cheaper than I would normally do the job for but I was not doing all of the work.

I was happy with my side of the arrangement, I know that bawazir was happy with the finished result.

It was entertaining to see his cousin messing about with the PC and having the LC white pad keep flying off the backing plate. (He was lifting the pad off the paint)

We were both disappointed with Black Magic wax. Application was easy, removal was a chore. Even though this product does not have space on my shelf, I wanted to try it out since bawazir brought it to try.

After helping out a local car enthusiast I will most likely be doing jobs solo from now on.

I have a Porsche Cayenne coming up Monday. I will post before/after in the sun when finished to more completely show my work.
