Hello I am a newbie with this whole detailing a car task and I need serious help. I figured I will come to the professionals for some help/advice.

1 month ago I purchased my Black 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe. I have hand washed it 2 times since I bought it using microfiber sponge to wash and the microfiber cloth to dry. The problem is yesterday for some reason when the sun was shining on the side of my car I saw some scratch marks along the passenger side door. It was some long scratch marks as if something small scraped it. What is weird is that if I look at the area in non-sunlight, dead on, I cannot see the scratches, however as soon as the light hits it, I can see it. Is there anything I can use to get the scratch marks out? My girlfriend does not think it is a big deal but this is my first car and I would like to keep it in great condition especially since it is fairly new. I am not sure if it got scratched during my washing process - hose the car down, wash with microfiber cloth and soap, rinse, dry with new microfiber cloth.

Any solutions/product recommendation to my scratch problem? I am thinking the paint is not damaged.

Bought Zymol Cleaner Wax today and applied some to a microfiber cloth then rubbed it into the scratches. No luck. No improvement on scratches.

I have some pics in this thread

Thanks to all who took the time to read and/or respond to my post.

for spot correction, get some scratchx 2.0 and a few foam applicators. it may require a few passes with some elbow grease, so don`t give up easily...

Thanks. What is a foam applicator and which one do you recommend? Will I be using my hand or a machine with the Scratch X?

meguiars has a 2pk of foam applicators and they run around $2-$3 (you can wash and re-use them). kragen use to carry them, you might want to check and if not, there are several online retailers that carry them along with plenty of other products. you can use the scratchx 2.0 (available at walmart, target, pepboys, autozone, etc) by hand or DA. make sure to get the " scratchx 2.0 " and not the regular " scratchx " as it has been improved and some stores still have the old one on the shelves.

BigAl3 thanks for all your help.

I had previously posted in the other forum but realized later that I will probably gett\ a better respond/suggestions using this section of the forum. However I did not know how to move the first thread to this part of the forum, therefore I just opened this new thread and tried to point to the first thread. My apologies. Will not happen again. How hard do I scrub using the Scratch X 2.0 and the foam applicator?

I had bought the Zymol Cleaner Wax yesterday and tried to rub it in using a microfiber cloth but it did not work. Can you tell me why that is? it the product or the wrong applicator?

Also how hard do I scrub using the foam pad? Always been scared of scratching the car even worse if I rub too hard.

the cleaner wax is not the right product for what you are trying to accomplish (you`re using the wrong product and applicator), which is to remove your scratches. that cleaner wax is for removing (or covering up) light scratches and adding a little protection. applying it by using a microfiber cloth could potentially install more scratches as well...

this gives you a good idea of what to do, if you have any more questions PM me...
