View Full Version : Banned for saying the "Q" word? REALLY?

Alright...now that I have been unable to post or use the forum to it`s fullest for the past MONTH, it`s my time to vent and for someone to provide some explanation, since my 3 messages to administrators were not important enough to reply to.

I have been using this website for about a year now, and have not ONCE been a problem to ANYONE on this site. Then, low and behold.....I am banned for using the word "`````" in a slang sense. Is this REALLY a just reason to ban someone from a website? Do you people who acted upon this not think a warning of some sort would have been a better way to approach the sin I committed on here? I`m not trying to stir trouble....I`ve not once done that on here before. But seriously.....you guys banned me for saying that "q" word....and for over a month I could not access my favorite website on the internet to it`s fullest.

I mean.....did that really hurt anyone`s feelings to the point I should have been banned?

End rant. Glad to be back!

I had someone edit my post with the "d" word.

N and Q should be ignored. People get offended when people use these words, but it just draws more attention to the word instead of solving anything. Somebody wants to say the N or Q word, fine by me.

I`ve been a mod on various forums in the past. In this circumstance, even if someone did complain about the usage of the word, I`d send a PM, especially if the word was used in such a context as the OP has described.

The OP was not directly telling someone "hey you`re a q**** shut up". This is the important part to consider, not the use of the word itself. I can say s*** or f*** or god da***, and I will probably offend someone, somewhere, who may have religious or personal moral beliefs. But, if my use of the word was not directed at a person specifically, then it shouldn`t be interpreted as me outright attacking spomeone / a culture / group of people. So, I don`t really understand the need or benefit from an all-out ban in this circumstance.

Just my 2 cents.

Just my 2 cents. Those words do not belong on a detailing forum, period. Can you not express your feelings using other words? :grrr

People who know me in real life know that I`m not at all PC/touchy-feely/"sensitive"...but I do find the pejorative use of words like that offensive. Using those words pejoratively (hey, if it`s not complimentary or neutral, then what`s left? It`s a very fine line at best...) does criticize people in that demographic whether it`s intentional or not.

It`s all about the pejorative context.

Completely different from the "F"/"S"/etc. words; but even though those words don`t bother me one bit, I`m still judicious about their use and that means not employing them here. And while I don`t find blasphemous speach offensive, I know that some people do, so I`m careful about employing that as well.

It`s a matter of being considerate, and I try to be just about as considerate as possible here at Autopia. Yeah, that`s very different from how things are at many other internet forums and a *LOT* different from what`s the norm in many settings in real life.

The Enforcer- I sure don`t think banning was the appropriate response, I woulda just asked you not to use the expression, or something no-big-deal like that. And make no mistake, I`m glad you`re back, I`d been wondering where you were lately.

Doesn`t matter what the word is. I`m pretty sure you`d use at least 5 words that would be viewed as "offense" by someone or some group, and you may not even know it. In this day and age, it`s nearly impossible to NOT offend someone or some group. Hell, there`s a debate right now about my country`s national anthem because it has the line "in all thy sons command" and apparantly that`s discriminatory to females.

Can I express myself in different ways, yes, I can. Doesn`t mean at some point I don`t make a mistake, intentional or not. My point is, I don`t personally think it justifies an all-out ban, a simple PM conversation would have done perfectly fine.

I would have to agree with this for sure.

Thanks everyone, I`m glad people see why I was upset about the ordeal and the fact no one ever replied to my messages about the incident. I want to know who the Mod was that banned me, and really think they should man up and explain their reasoning being doing that instead of PMing me with a warning.

Weel, maybe I can post up some more amatuer details now that the weather is getting more spring-like.

Perhaps if you would abide by the forum rules and respect the forum then you might not have any issues.

I have worked with some openly ````sexual people - males and females and just like the guys in "Barborshop" said - it`s different amoung the group in question. If you never saw Barborshop - get some old Richard Pryer records.

As to the "````` nation" never laughed as hard as when I heard two lesbians refer to another as butch dyke ***** - just you don`t try to call one that!

Yea.....perhaps I wouldn`t be writing this if a simple PM asking for me to not use the "q" word in slang were sent to me.....but it was straight to the chopping blocks. It must have been you?

Nope not me. It must have been one of other moderators.

My reasoning? Did you not read the rules when you signed up for your account? Taken directly from the Community Rules (link on homepage):

Threads or replies promoting or expressing intolerant views towards minorities (race, religion, sexual preference, etc.) will not be tolerated.

And, from the Rule Infraction section on the same page:

1. Warning: Minor rule infractions, such as soft bashing, free-posting, signature/avatar issues, etc.

2. Time Out: Heavy bashing, being a hot-head, soft spamming, bad language, posting inappropriate materials, etc.

3. Banned: Blatant spamming/selling, attacking forum moderators, pornography, racial/sexist/threatening posts, trolling, fraud, liable/slander, multiple accounts, etc.

You broke the rules, I enforced the punishment. If you want to take it up with me, do it via PM; this thread is locked.
