Black 93` Rx-7

Friend of mine`s Rx-7 I`m taking care of for him. It needs some love, but is in great overall shape other than the car`s swirled/oxidized paint. I will have fun with this tiny car compared to how much trouble the cobra/supra was. Looking forward to it!

Got the entire driver`s side of the car done earlier today and half the hood.

So far, I`ve been able to get about 80 percent correction on this paint (some RIDS are too deep to get without wet sanding, and clear coat is too thin to do so).



All correction done with a Flex rotary, a white CCS pad, and some Megs 205 @ 1500rpm for 3 passes per panel.





I`m really pleased with how quickly it`s removing the oxidation even with a minimal cut pad such as the white one with such a light polish. This paint is EXTREMELY soft. Each panel blackens the pad so ****ing bad that I have to keep washing it every panel, which is pretty much tripling my time required to finish this. Planning on pulling an all nighter to finish the hood, roof, and decklid. Tomorrow will be onto the passenger side of the car, which should only take a few hours.

Sorry, I forgot to list the rest of the products I used.





I did 3 coats of Blackfire Wet Diamond and the owner is topping it off with 2 coats of NXT 2.0 (he`s paranoid now of oxidation) haha



On the trim, I used black again, and on the glass, I used Stoner`s invisible glass.

Man, i hope your friend realizes what he has. FD`s are such sick cars and they are becoming a little more difficult to find.

LOL! Thanks guys....yeah, I noticed the paint was EXTREMELY soft, so I tried my lightest combo and was able to achieve a one-step correction!

1- pads turned black from oxidation. on the 2nd and 3rd passes, they were clear.

2- that`s a great point. i will tell him to use my spare jar of s100. never thought about that. thanks

Only single stage paint oxidizes. If the pad turns black as in this case you worked on a SS paint, which means that you could have sanded. If your pads turn gray that meant the paint was just dirty. If the color was BLACK, you were removing dead paint. Does it make sense?

...sorry, I just call it oxidation, because that`s exactly what it appears to be. it`s hazy-*** paint, and the haze is removed wiith a pad, much like oxidized single stage would do. not sure what else to call it on a cc

If I`m wrong, please educate me, because I was under the impression if a car had cc failure, it was a cc paintjob. His car had actual cc peeling off on the rear bumper. This is why I was calling it a cc. I`m always willing to learn new things. Thanks again for the reminder about NXT having cleaners...I don`t use nxt anymore, and totally forgot about that.

What I was saying is that a CC paint would not transfer color. If it did, obviously the CC was gone and you were poilishg the base coat.



Oxidized paint looks faded. We all know what that is. CC paint that looks dull is due to micro scratches.



We are on the same page. I used to call it oxidation as well until someone explained to me the difference.
