View Full Version : Questionable durability of FK1 #1000?

Back in the middle of September (I think) I was finally able to clean up the van to my standards after moving out here.

The process was something like:

wash

clay

205

I normally use a paint cleaner to get the oils from the paint but I decided against it to really test #1000 - I had a feeling that it would be outside 24/7

Here is how it looked a day after it was detailed.

Today I took some pictures to show how the paint looks after rain. I don`t have to tell you how the weather is out here, but in case you didn`t know it rains most days in the winter.

I also want to mention that a few weeks ago I cleaned all the windows and applied #1000 on them. (A mistake, I need to get something else on that sheets :D)

Here is the car, dirty and all but I think that #1000 is holding up just fine.

Window is beading very well

So is the hood

I`ll post more pictures in a few months, see how long I can go between applications.

Have you noticed any difference between the look of the paints finish? For example: gloss, slickness, depth, etc.

Since the weather is pretty nasty I don`t get to see it often to compare as far as the look. Next time I wash it I`ll wait for a "sunny day" to do it and take some picturess for you. It is still slick. Not as slick when first waxed naturally but last time I washed it I was very impressed.

tdekany- Is that with just one application of FK1000P or did you layer it/do more than one?

Is the dirt-shedding as good for you as others have reported?

I did the Yukon XLD with (many applications of) FK1000P last year, but I haven`t been using it enough to draw any conclusions of my own.

T, that amount of beading is very much in line with what I see on my cars after a few months. OTOH, it`ll stay like that for months to come based upon my experience - - it never goes completely flat. The product is still very much on the job.

I don`t think the FK 1000p is a stellar beader like we might find with similar sealants. However, it does shed very well and always looks fantastic following that weekly wash.

Just one application with the pc.

Very good - cleans up very easy.

It is good stuff. Thanks!

I`m going to agree with what Accumulator is hinting at: You do need more than 1 layer.

On top of PWC it was still protecting after 8 months. 1 layer only. I Rover I used to do every 8 months or so. hint hint :D

Heh heh, actually, I wasn`t really hinting at layering the FK1000P, but was merely curious. I think I kinda overdid it on the Yukon, even got one area with *very* light pseudo-holograms sorta like 476S can do.

i`ve got 4coats on my a4 that were applied around thanksgiving.

only maintenance since then have been a few ONR washes.

still going strong.

nice tight beads and as long as the car is moving above 35mph, water does not stay on the car.

girlfriend`s civic with 3coats of 845 seems to be doing well too.

although there was one case where a bird bomb was not releasing very well.

actually needed to break out the 1z insekt for that one.

the audi with fk1000p has not yet encountered a bird bomb that didn`t easily wash away with some QD.
