3 coats in 2 1/2 days

I had another long weekend, so this time I decided not to be a honey do victim (honey do this, honey do that :D ).

I washed the car Saturday evening and put a coat of UPP on by hand. After letting it set up overnight, I buffed it off Sunday morning. Then I put a coat of UPP on the door jambs, underside of the trunk & trunk drain channel, the underside of the hood and whatever other painted surfaces under the hood I could reach. I also did AIO & UPP to the chrome rims.

When I was done with that, I used the PC and a finishing pad (dampened with Eagle One Wipe & Shine) to put on another coat of UPP. Then I put another coat of UPP on the rims & Rain-Xed the windows.

I took care of a few honey do`s and a few hours later I buffed off the UPP. Later towards evening, I used the PC again and another finishing pad and applied yet another coat of UPP. This time I used the pad `dry.`

I just got done buffing off the third coat of UPP this morning. You`ve all seen how my camera sucks, so I won`t post pics. Let`s just say the paint looks so wet, it almost seems like it would come off on my fingers if I touch it.

One thing I did learn for sure is that using a PC & finishing pad DRY, is much easier, and uses way less product than either doing it by hand or with a dampened pad on the PC. Too, the coats are far more evenly applied than anything I could manage by hand.

The car really looks great. The only `issue` I have with the UPP is how it beads water. I guess I thought I would get these never ending, super small, tight round beads instead of the larger, less well-defined ones I do get. Oh well.

Don, I have found the same thing to be true. I cut in by hand, then break out the PC and finishing pad.

About the beads, do you think you are just used to the tight beads that zaino produces(I think I remember reading that you used Z from time to time)? Just wondering because I think UPP beads really well, but I am used to #26.

UPP starts to really look good after 3 coats. 3 to 5 coats is where people start noticing. You can probably get better results with more, but 3 is good for me. I use the rest to butter my toast. mmmmmmm UPP goodness!

I detailed a stang recently, which now has AIOx2 SGx2 UPPx2 and the beads are very small and numerous.

Thanks for tip on using the PC to apply UPP. The best hand applicator I found for UPP is the viking app with foam handle.

One of the tighest beading waxes I have used is #26. That wax always gets me virtually pea sized water dropplets.

I put two lines on the pad, one on each side about 2 1/2 inches long and the size of a large spaghetti noodle. I also found that UPP does NOT like to be buffed off in the sunlight, it smears just like a carnuaba.
