Hey guys,

When I bought my 335i, the front bumper had little bits of rash on it from the previous owner. The back bumper was also dinged up from license plate brackets. Well, I decided I wanted to sell the car the last couple weeks and thought I would get the bumpers sprayed fresh for the next owner. I ended up getting this done at Dent Werx (DENT WERX PAINTLESS DENT REMOVAL (http://www.dents-n-dings.com/)) a shop local to my house. I took it to the guy and asked for an estimate, and asked if he was good with matching the bmw oem orange peel. He said yeah, yeah, yeah and I left the car with him. I picked it up this past Saturday and I`m not quite sure what to think of the job he did. I`m not sure if I should keep it, take it back, or have a professional bodyshop guy/detailer try to wetsand it and fix it. The front bumper isn`t as bad as the rear bumper is. And mainly it`s only the sides of the rear bumper that look pretty bad. And FYI my final price was $600. What are your guys thoughts?

Thanks,

Mike

I use to work for BMW and i know from the factory they have orange peal but for $600 i would take it back and tell the guy that that is unacceptable. I can be a bit of a picky person but that is just way to noticeable. The reflection is really dull/hazy looking and i just don`t think that it is fair for you to pay that much money and be left with a sub par job.

I`m sure you can find a local detailer from this forum who can come and wet sand and buff both bumpers leaving them to look pretty much perfect . . . . . but i would start with the shop first as $600 isn`t something you just want to throw away . . . . or do you?

check with: bufferbarry as he resides in PA as well. He has stepped away from the forums for now though so you would need to contact him through his website:

That is a pretty poor job but it could turn out OK if you have it wet sanded and polished. I had mobile bumper repair guy do my front bumper and he came back after 2 days and wet sanded the bumper and it turned out very nice. My bumper had some peel like yours does and it can be removed.

If I were ever to do it again I would not use the mobile guys and would take it to a good body shop. One thing that I learned is you will not get a top quality job when thy paint it on the car. The bumpers should be removed and painted.

Too dry.

May be salvageable with a little 2000 wet sanding.

Bottom Line: Looks like a very crappy job and you got ripped off for $600. Looks like they painted it on the car from the looks of the edges. It costs more than that to have your bumpers professionally repaired/refinished. Anything less means less quality.

I keep preaching to people to stay away from mobile Lot Lizzards. They aren`t body shops. They are mobile crap shooters. Run for zee hills.:har:

Per their web-site:

We partner with body shops to assure other areas of your car stay dent free.

While your car is in a body shop for major repair work, DENT WERX can work with your body shop to repair dents and dings using our PDR method.
