I just discovered Autopia and about to detail a 2005 Honda Civic in Metallic Grey. I’m new to auto detailing and would be grateful for your advice because some of the newbie threads have left me confused.

I’ve inspected the paintwork and it’s in excellent condition with no defects, whirls or contaminations. I am confused about whether I should therefore skip using polish since it is abrasive and unnecessary? Should I use a glaze? If so which order should the stages be completed in: Wash->Glaze->Wax->Sealant?

I already have the following:

Autoglym Bodywash Shampoo

Autoglym Resin Polish

Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection

Autoglym HD Wax

I was wondering if I would benefit from using a glaze and sealant. My plan was:

1. Wash with Autoglym Bodywash Shampoo

2. Glaze with Meguiars M07 Show Car Glaze or Poorboy`s Black Hole Glaze*

2. Wax with Autoglym HD Wax

4. Seal with Poorboy`s EX-P Sealant

*= From my understanding Meguiars M07 Show Car Glaze is non-abrasive where was the Poorboy`s is abrasive. The Meguiars would be my preference but I`m unsure.

Is the final step not recommended? I`m confused whether you should apply a wax OR a sealant but never both?

Your advice would be gratefully received!

Many thanks!

M07 is only really compatible with older style (real) waxes and Meguiars sealants. Black hole might be a better choice but since its for darker colors, might be less than perfect for grey. Also you shouldn`t put a sealant on top of wax, the wax should be your last layer. Give the sealant 12 hours to fully cure before using the wax.

Have you had the car detailed ever? I`d make sure to use a paint cleaner/polish before you tackle the glaze.

here`s a cool comparison between DWG and M07. BlackHole is essentially the same as DWG so I consider it a valid comparison. Poorboys claim to have cleaning and filling properties, but they both originate from the same place.

Thanks for all the replies.

I`ve decided to purchase some Poorboy`s Black Hole and follow the following path:

Autoglym Super Resin Polish->Poorboy`s Black Hole->Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection->Autoglym HD wax

I`ve posted some photos of the car I`m working on. I should mention I bought it from a Honda Franchised dealer last week so I don`t know if its been detailed before. I can`t see any whirls or scratches but I will need to re-examine after washing and drying. But I understand now that I should use a polish such as SRP to remove the wax / sealant that has been applied previously.

I`ll work with the products I have now and consider other options when they run out.

Cheers!

Forgive my ignorance but when you say 12 hours to cure. Do you mean apply it and leave for 12 hours BEFORE or AFTER buffing off?

Thanks.
