Since it is claiming to be the most powerful out there (and according to published numbers it is) does this mean that with the Griots you can achieve decent correction with a larger pad? The six inch that they recomend? What is the autopian`s thoughts on the new Griot`s and larger pads, do we still need the 4 inchers to do the job?

I had no trouble keeping the Meguiar`s 7" Softbuff pad rotating under very firm pressure with the Griot`s Garage Polisher on the 5.0 setting and the 6.0 didn`t seem to care much about size either. It is powerful.

So rotating a 6.5 or smaller pad should be no problem for the GG Polisher.

See this thread for a few comments I made after testing 3 polishers side-by-side,

Here`s one where I used the Griot`s pads with their polisher,

Mike Phillips- Thanks for the info, I`d been wondering about how the two compare.

Keeping a 7" pad rotating under pressure certainly *is* a big improvement over the older/original PCs!

just got the new griots catalog (no.300 collector`s edition LOL) and looks like they improved the outer design on the 3" random orbital...

Maybe they improved the innards too; my first one died pretty fast....

Actually the motor has been improved along with the speed selector dial. The changes were made to improve reliability and ergonomics but to maintain the same performance.

Heh heh, it just figures that I got the *older* model as a gift right before the redesigned it. Oh well, I`m not gonna look a gift horse in the mouth..

BigAl3- Yeah, I remember the Metabo coming up the last time we discussed the 3" ROs. Probably woulda been a better choice, but Accumulatorette finds it easy to order me stuff out of the Griot`s catalog.

Ah, but noting my past experiences related to the return of Griot`s products, I`m not all that confident about what`ll happen if this second/replacement one goes bad :o

Heh heh, leaving karma and morality-in-general aside, with my luck something would come up the next day where I could really use it. And my first one broke quickly enough without any intentional help from me!

If I`m not careful I`ll be back on the Griot`s [stuff]-list again :chuckle:
