Just finished detailing my new car and noticed what appears to be "etched" bird droppings on the hood (Dealer said the car had bird droppings on it and it sat in the hot sun for 3 days until I was able to pick it up). I have been using very mild products to date to prep the car which did not remove these "stains".

Any suggestions on how to remove these "stains"?

Thanks in advance for any help!

My car got bombarded by a flock of seagulls. I did receive advice from this forum and it was very helpful.

After my initial attempt failed here was the procedure.

-Remove all wax and sealants

- I made a paste of baking soda and water and applied it to the etch marks; probably 25- 30 etches and let it sit overnight.

- Removed the baking soda and polished the etches out using a Flex DA. One pass with Menzerna SIP and another pass with Menzerna 106ff.

- The mistake that I initially made was to wax/ sealant the car immediately after polishing out the marks and they did re-appear.

- This time I applied Danase Wet Glaze and then followed by waxing the car in a week and 1/2.

- The reason for waiting to wax the car later was to be sure that the bird doo had out gassed completely.

Good luck since I truly feel for you.

Thanks, Lou K.!

Good point about letting the droppings "gas-out".
