From what I have read it seems that circular motions are a no no with washing, buffing, and waxing. Does everybody go sideways along the sides of the car? What about on the hood??? Does it very at all depending on the process?

Thanks in advance!

It doesn`t really matter, TBH.

If there is grit or dirt in your applicator pad, it is going to mar, whether you are going side to side, up and down, or in a circular motion.

Well, you surely don`t want to rub things the wrong way...LOL :p

I agree that it does not matter and that you don`t want to rub things the wrong way :p

The most important thing is consistent and thorough coverage IMO, be it from circles or lines.

I generally figure that overlapping circular/elliptical motions are more likely to give uniform/complete coverage.

As noted, unless you do something wrong, there`s no marring involved so direction won`t matter in that regard. If you do something wrong, and you *do* get marring, then straight scratches will be less obvious.
