Can you clean the glass on an old car and make it bead again or is there suppose to be a protective coating that makes it bead?

You need to polish it. You can use glass or metal polish (which are usually pretty similar) or whatever you use on your paint (you can usually use methods which are more aggressive than for paint because glass is harder...but some of the new glass seems to be really soft).

Do you mean wax/seal over the glass? Is that what you`re getting at, Shadow?

Some of us use Aquapel on the windshield. I generally go over the glass + moonroof with whatever sealant I`m using when I do the body of the car.

There are some glass polishes out there that work fairly well. Clay works well to clean the windshield.

I have a friend who has an 1990 car and the glass off course with no maintenace, doesnt bead one bit. And I wondering if glass itself has a coating. I guess I should try myself.

No, it doesn`t have a coating, except apparently some recent Lexus driver windows.
