View Full Version : Rasky`s AD: Black Mazdaspeed3

For having 20,000 miles on the clock this car was in very good shape…I actually wish more people would take care of their cars like this. Having evaluating the finish 2 weeks prior, we decided to give the car a 1-step polish and fluff up the interior doing whatever it may need. I tried both Menzurna Nano polish and Meguiar`s M205 on my test spots. Both polishes yielded about the same results with M205 working faster, easier, and still leaving an excellent finish. I did try to capture the very light marring in the paint, which was typical from 20,000 miles worth of washings, but was unsuccessful with my camera. About the only thing on the paint that did show in the pics were the bug corpses, which had etched into the mirrors having been on the paint since last fall.





-Car was washed with Megs Gold Class, P21S Gel on the wheels, APC+ on the wheel wells, and Amazing Roll Off on the tires.





-Exhaust tip was cleaned with M105 and protected with KAIO.





-The lower half of the car was loaded with bonded surface contaminants and fine tar. I first used Tarminator to remove the tar, and the clayed the whole car with Megs Mild Clay.





-Some water spots were on the trim around the side windows and center pillars from when the window tinting had been done. I tried KAIO which removed them and left the trim looking like brand new.





-For my choice of protectant on this car I tried out some Opti-Seal, which I was using for the first time…it was very easy to use. I then topped it off the following day with some Dodo Juice Supernatural.



-On the interior I shampooed the floor matts and front carpets, went over the vinyl with Megs QID, and treated the leather with some Leather Masters cleaner and protectant.

Most of the black deposit was removed durring the washing with APC+ and a wash mitt. Once the car was dry I used Meguiar`s M105 on a MF towel to polish the chrome tip and then I protected it with KAIO. ;)

Nice work as always Rasky! Sorry if I missed it, but what application method/tool did you use for the 205? There are a lot of people interested in this product and it seems to have a bit of a learning curve. Care to enlighten us?

I used M205 on the Flex with a Megs W8207 pad. I made 4-6 passes with medium to heavy pressure, followed by 2 passes with medium to light pressure. I compared it to Menz Nano on a white LC pad and had similar results, though I felt the M205 removed more defects, worked faster, easier, and gave the same finish as the Nano. I also tried going over my M205 test spot with UF on the rotary to see if I could improve the finish substantially. I saw no difference under my halogens or dual xenon. I would have pulled it outside but it was raining.



I have had some issues with M205 on both the rotary and Flex, but usually it works very well for me. The paint on this car was actually a joy to work with! Not too hard or soft, though I did bust out M105 on a few deeper scratches.

Yeah, I was able to get in there with my EZ detail brush. There was some tar specs that remained though.

Great work and a terrific photo display - kudos! Is that some Poorboy`s Leather Stuff I see in the cupholder? I love that stuff, even if the `scent` is a little overpowering. Anyway - thanks for sharing this...sweet little car and an outstanding detail effort.

That was the owners PB stuff. He said I could use it if I wanted but chose my LM instead. ;)

Very nice Rasky! I own one myself and hope my Cosmic Blue paint isn`t difficult to work with either. The owner was so happy and excited about the work you did, he posted on Mazdaspeedforums.org!

Very cool. It`s a shame he`s thinking about selling it now. :(



I really like the dash and seats on those cars...much better than my Mazda 6 was. :xyxthumbs
