Man I would like about 10 of these. Why does MF have to be so damn pricey!! I bet they pay about 50 cents for each towel.

There are many import business to business sites that have microfiber sold for peanuts. You have to place minimum orders in the thousands for them. Many are the ones found at the online retailers that we use but re-branded with their own labels sewn on for marketing. Most come from China.

For example, here is the MF wash mitt we see for sale at many sites (and Target, Wally World, etc...). Wonder how much it costs to import the minimum of 5,000 pieces and then resell for like $7.99 a pop? There a dozen or so importers of that mitt in all colors.

Search around that site. I have found some images on that site that are used on retailer`s websites here in the US.

None of these retailers make their own microfiber. They import them and jazz it up with marketing and price it according to what the market will allow. The idea is to find them at the best price since may places sell the exact same towels with just different names.

That site also has all sorts of other car care accessories like brushes, etc... that we buy from the retailers.

This one looks familiar. Sort of looks like the discontinued wheel brush from a certain car care company :o car brush (http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/51020745/car_brush.html) Or buy it from this guy Car Brushes (http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/213448440/Car_Brushes.html)

That seems a bit pricey considering the AutoSpa max towels are selling at Pep Boys and Advanced for $7-$8

They dont pay 50 cents each but they have a nice mark up. I use to do it with importing womans dresss. There is a lot of money to be laid out (letter of credit) and then when its all done they figure out a landed price (don`t forget duty) and shipping and because shipping by boat could be as long as 6 weeks thry have to ship by air.

Let`s face it, a normal retail markup is 100%. You guys don`t really think that when they do the closeout sales at 50% they are losing money (other than the inventory carrying costs)?

Don`t think for a second that 100% markup is a rip off. Many items have a list price 2-4 times what the manufacturer charges the distributor for an item. Often the retailer sells at a discount from the suggested list price. The markup is to cover shipping costs, rent, utilities and employees wages.

FYI, the corners on that towel can be dangerous. They used glue to seal the seam on the end. Catch it on the paint and itll be like a small rock in your MF towel.

Nearly every towel I`ve purchased from sponsors here have that issue except the ones with the silky edging. It seems to be a very common practice. The lower quality ones from Target sold under the Vroom name have it real bad.

Thats why I only use ones with silk edging on paint.

Yep, it is my understanding that they cut the towels with a "hot knife" which scorches the corners and creates the "rocks."

I never suggested it`s a ripoff, I suggested it`s the norm. In the old days, the mfr.-to-distributor markup was 100%, and the retailer-to-customer markup was also 100%, the 4:1 ratio you noted (the distrubutor bought the candy bar for a quarter, sold it to the newstand for fifty cents, who sold it to you for a buck). Thanks for filling everybody in on business overhead, I already knew about that ;)
