Hi,

I just got a 2008 Slate Blue Infiniti G37S Coupe on 10 Feb. I`ve only had the car a month and someone kissed my bumper at work and left only 2 small pinpoint nicks which don`t really bother me but the other day, a rock or whatever must`ve hit my car while on the highway as I came home to find a rock chip/guoge in the upper part of the right front fender.http://autopia.org/forum/images/smilies/wall.gif

I`ve seen the tutorial on wetsanding but definitely dont` feel comfortable do that kind of work myself so I`ve contacted my bodyshop (who say`s I should just dab a little touch up but it`s not worth the expense of fixing it), and a couple detailers in my area of San Diego.

I have the Infiniti Touch Up Paint from the dealership which is a one part that came in what looks like the same Duplicolor StratchnFix2in1 Pen/Brush applicator bottle (looks like center bottle in this ebay ad photo eBay Motors: OEM 2003-2008 Infiniti M35 Sedan Touch-Up Paint M45 (item 390018289195 end time Mar-18-09 23:00:00 PDT) (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OEM-2003-2008-Infiniti-M35-Sedan-Touch-Up-Paint-M45_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em14Q2el 1262QQhashZitem390018289195QQitemZ390018289195QQpt ZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories). I`ve seen the 2 part pens (base coat/clear coat I assume) on ebay for Nissan/Infiniti here

Any suggestions on how to attack this? I`m looking at the Guide to Wetsanding Article linked below as the proper way to go. Does anyone have any experience/suggestions on whether to go with the one part touch up or the 2 part, or use the one part and add the clear from teh 2 part as the final coat. My concern is adding the layer of clear coat to really get the best match as well as for the best finish for the long term. Or is the clear coat layer unnecessary with the one part at all.

The pictures of my chip/gouge are below. I looks to be about fingernail (less than 1/2 mm) deep at the deepest point and there looks to be just a pinpoint of metal (not sure, haven`t picked at it to verify but I`m going by the look which may not show up in the pics).

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks. I just got the car and intend to have it for a while. I know there is definitely going to be more chips down the road so right now I don`t see the point in redoing the whole fender for a 1/4X1/4 inch scratch. I know it may not come out perfect but I want to minimize it and protect the paint/metal so that point doesn`t become a problem later.
