Has anyone tried dry sanding clearcoat with Unigrit 3000? I`m contemplating this for some small areas with scratches and a few tracers.

Some body shops use dry sanding to take out scratches and take down nubs. It works, but I like wet sanding better.

I do it on occasion with 2000, for a few small scratches. The paper clogs very fast but still polishes out well.

if your only gonna hit a few scratches wet sand them. if you press to hard not only are you gonna risk clearcoat failure, but the purpose of water is lubrication. which allows for the paper to slide evenly across the finish. dry sanding makes for clumpy paper fast! if you get clumpy paper your gonna get deeper scratches that can cause problems or even a burn threw! i know david ferenni correct me on the spelling of his name! he dry sands with micro 4000 grit but at that point 4000 grit is alot like a semi used aggressive clay! if your gonna do it just be carefull and make sure your exsperianced enough to get the sand marks out,!

Just wet a MF and use it to prime the spot so the paper will glide better and will not clog as fast. Then rub the paper on the wet MF to clean the paper and wet it.

Have dry sanded with micromesh 4k paper more then a few times. Micromesh rates their 4k paper as 2k. David Fermani knows the micromesh paper well, so he might be able to comment better.

I prefer dry sanding when doing some overspray removals, but if you`re removing defects in the paint, you should sand wet.

Meg`s says their Unigrit papers should only be used wet.
