I parked my car near a fire hydrant--apparently too close (10ft vs 15ft...no painted curb...I`ll gladly pay the ticket...but what I walked up to was agrivating).

The NYPD tow truck was trying to wedge my door open with a rubber wedge, while trying to hook the handle so they could release my parking brake and tow my AWD car with only two wheels supported. He did not use any sleeve or anything to protect the paint as he very unsuccessfully tried to get the door unlocked, and this damage ensued.

When I walked up, he said that the only reason it wasn`t gone already was because of the brake and because he would be blocking traffic. (so instead he was actually parked in front of the hydrant) I was pissed and he ran off into his little truck and sped away.

So what do I do? Touch up paint? Application recommendations? It`s a brand new car so to say that I am pissed is an understatement. I`m just glad I walked up before he hand a chance to screw things up even more.

I`d be pissed too. A DIY touchup would be one option. Kevin (picus) did a nice rightup a while ago on doing touchups for rock chips and scratches.

the problem is that I am dealing with an edge...which hides it a bit...but makes sanding kind of dodgy...

Right, I wouldn`t go to crazy with the wet sanding if you do end up giving it ago.

#1- Get an estimate from a body shop and then take it to the police station.

#2- receive check

#3- Have it fixed

You say its a new car, and since you`re on a detailing message board you are obviously a fanatic about your car. If its just half-assed itll bug you as long as yu have the car.

My friends wife`s 08 accord got rear ended in traffic a few weeks ago. A very light tap, but still the recess around the license plate had some small stress cracks and there was a scratch on the bumper itself. She still gotit fixed, its a new car, it should look that way.

It is the upper right corner of the driver`s door if that helps.
