Some of you may remember this car from this thread: http://www.autopia.org/forum/car-detailing/113652-rail-dust-problem.html Anyways, finally got approval from the service manager and owner of the dealership where this car was purchased to perform the work. After many headache`s we getting approval and so on, I began Tuesday at 5pm until 9pm removing the rail-dust and other surface contaminants.

Wednesday I started at 8am, after driving through a snow-storm. I compounded, medium polished with IPA in between each. Certain scratches were wetsanded. At 6pm, Wednesday evening I began final polishing and went home around 8:30pm. (Girlfriend called:laugh:). Returned to the dealer Thursday to finish the polishing, proceeded to jewel the paint, and seal. Total time spent: 17 hours.

Process:

Contaminant removal:

CarBrite Fall out remover

Clay during acid

Wash and rinse

Clay again (soap solution as lube)

Paint correction:

Compounding: M105/OrangeCCS/Flex

Heavy Polishing: SIP/WhiteCCS/Flex

Final Polishing: PO203 Power Finish/GreenCCS/Flex

Jewelling:PO85rd Final Finish/RedCCS/Flex

LSP:

Pinnacle Souveran....

The Service Manager said exactly that, "This is the best condition any vehicle has ever come from this dealership" :woot2:

Thanks Sludge for helping me hook-up with gtpaul. Thanks everyone for all the suggestions and help provided. And a big thanks to gtpaul for taking on such a challenging issue at this time of the season. What he can do with those hands is miraculous :bow

Wow, glad this all worked out so well, I can`t believe they paid for 17 hours since the most they usually spend is 17 minutes. What are those tires, Hakkas?

Mulling over which tire to choose, I went with the advice at the following link and chose Michelin X-ice:

Michelin X-Ice Xi2 Introductory Drive (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/TireTestServlet?tireMake=Michelin&tireModel=X-Ice+Xi2&partnum=05TR6XI2&fromCompare1=yes&wTire=5)

The dealership at first didn`t believe it. But when one of their own referrals estimated 20 hours, it finally sunk in. The car was really in bad shape. We had three quotes and gtpaul`s was the best. I`m really glad gtpaul won out. The other detailers were talking about wet-sanding the whole car :soscared: One guy was trying to convince me that with 28 years experience, he could tell the depth of the paint by just looking at it. Like he had x-ray vision or something :hm

The other detailer was saying the paint was doomed and I`d have to live with the swirls and spider-webbing :bolt

It was truly a bizarre and creepy experiencing. After some consultations, I knew I couldn`t trust anybody with the car other than gtpaul. I doubt there would have been any clear coat left. gtpaul followed a perfect balance of paint correction and clear coat preservation :goodjob
