So, I was going to polish/seal my buddy`s 1996 Nissan Pathfinder. I can`t tell if it has a clear coat on it, his finish is pretty dull but it may be from years of neglect. I was planning to use the Menzerna Powergloss and then the Menzerna SIP, followed by some Klasse. Would any of this screw up his paint if, indeed, there is no clear coat on his car?

Short/Quick answer: you can treat it the same as basecoat/clearcoat paint for all practical purposes.

Dunno if the SIP will leave things ready-to-wax (or rather ready-to-Klasse) though, I`d probably use a finishing polish after the SIP but I`m not expert on Menzerna.

I was gonna use the Sonus SX-3 before the Klasse (sorry, forgot). Sound like a feasible plan? I was just worried the Powergloss would dull the paint even more if it didn`t have a clearcoat.

Test spot with the least aggressive method first. That should be the first thing you ever do before going all into a detail job :)

ok, so test with SIP in an inconspicuous spot first? If it becomes more reflective, go ahead and polish away, then if it doesn`t clear up enough, go for the supergloss?

you will know right away if its a single stage paint your pad will change to the color of the paint on an older oxidized single stage paint! most likely you nissan is a single stage most older jap and european cars are. i know for sure toyota/lexus alot of them were single stage! nissan was to in the 90`s good luck and go slow burns on edges are easy! good luck can`t wait to see pics!

Thanks bro, we`ll see how it goes. It`s a white car, so I`ll get some dark cloth and test it out with some paint cleaner.
