Dent in 08 535 Rear Bumper =( do I need a new one or can it be fixed? Pix included

How big is that? About an inch? Not really sure how to answer your question...are you asking can it be fixed without a respray? Or whether it can be fixed at all? I believe the insurance co. would write for a new bumper cover. Hard to tell if the impact absorber is creased (doesn`t look it), but they might cover a new one also.



If you`re asking if you can fix this one, you can certainly make it look better. I`m not sure if there are body fillers that bond/flex properly to/with those urethane bumper covers (I imagine there are), so I would presume that it could be sanded, filled, sanded, and the whole thing resprayed. Or you could make it less noticeable with some local touchup/sand/polish.

It can easily be "fixed" properly by any decent body shop. But live with it for now

as the proper way to repair that would be to refinish the entire bumper cover.

Anywhere from $300 - $500 plus and about 2 days. All other methods wont last.

Actually, an appraiser with any knowledge would write to fix this one all day long. OTOH, most shops would write to replace it. That`s why I have a job I guess. :D

Most bumpers range from $250 to $1200 which means that you *could* do a 30 hour repair on a bumper that was torn into 3 pieces and still come out ahead. Would anyone put 30 hours into a cover - no way, but I`ve put 15 hours into them all the time. Plastic is very repairable these days thanks to 3M`s bumper repair kit. The only way I`ll do a repair on plastic is if the shop can offer a lifetime gaurantee on the repair. If not, I`ll go with a replacement after I pay them to atleast try.
