I`ve got an interior job on a vintage Benz and the owner tells me that there`s mold growing on the seats/trim. I`m thinking of using Microban, but didn`t know how safe it is on leather? They mentioned that another detailer cleaned it up a few months ago and it looked fine, but the molding is coming back. It`s a spare vehicle that never gets driven and is parked in a dark parking structure. Nice recipe for mold growth huh? :scared:

If it is mold you need to use an enzyme cleaner that will kill the mold and prevent it from returning. There are only a couple of products that I know of that have been tested on leather and are safe to use and will not damage the leather finish.

If it is spew (less likely) you will also need a specialist product to restabilize the fats in the leather.

Let me know if you need any further info

Microban hasn`t altered the color on anything i`ve used it on so far, fwiw. I haven`t had to use it on leather though. Try it on a hidden area first. Hopefully the mold isn`t in the foam.

after it is cleaned up and the mold is removed

have them keep some Damp Rid in the car ($5 @Home Depot, Walmart ect..)

it will remove moisture and ordors

a must for any car not driven too often

Can someone add this to the knowledge base on The Detailing Wiki. There is a really good start on Leather Care there and this would be a good addition.

In my time in S.F., I don`t ever recall coming across any mold problems. Maybe once or twice, but the alcohol in my cleaner probably took care of the problem.

Wasn`t there just a detail recently on a red Mercedes that had really bad mold growth in it that was treated.
