Neighbour has scuff marks on the hull of his boat, looks like it might be from black rubber scuffing against the wharf. Will Isopropyl alcohol take this off or should I try a polish with the porter cable.

It should rub off with your finger when dry. If not, hit it with a mild compound.

I would try some denatured alcohol, works well

some cleaner wax on a white scott brite pad works also

there are also black mark remover products at the marine store

The alcohol didn`t work, nor bug ans tar remover, so I hit it with XMT 2.5 swirl remover and it came right off. Thanks for the suggestions though.

Petrochemical solvents such as gasoline, Kerosene and even paint thinner remove scuffs easily. You need to clean off the petrochemical residue, but you are likely going to be washing the boast anyway.

meguiars scratch x removes paint transfer from other objects using diminishing abrasives and creates opticla clarity. using gasoline, kerosene or rubbing alchool is stupid and pointless. megs scratch x is 9.99 a tube, use it with a terry cloth or even a microfiber, dont be dumb and rub ur cars paint with gasoline

I`d try an APC or maybe 409 if it`s from the rubber rollers on the trailer.

It`s not a car - its a BOAT and many high powered cleaners for CARS are based in petroleum distillates- read the labels. I use paint thinner often to clean the scuffs from wooden docks and bumper rails off the sides of my 24 foot boat which has a 50/50 mix of gel coat and boat decal graphics. Quick and easy, followed by Collinite boat cleaner and a coat of Collinite wax. In 10 years, the gel coat and decals are like new.

Anybody tried Mr. Clean Magic Eraser? Worked for me like a charm on exactly those marks in the above pics!

The magic eraser may marr the finish while it removes those scuffs.

if its on Gelcoat use Acetone it will take them right off...if its paint test it first in an inconspicuos area...most IMRON will hold up to it just fine....just be sure to throw some wax over it afterwards cause the Acetone wil take the wax right off....
